THE COMMISSIONERS COURT WILL CONDUCT A PUBLIC HEARING ON
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 2005 AT 2:00 P.M. IN THE COMMISSIONERS
COURTROOM OF THE BRAZOS COUNTY COURTHOUSE, 300 EAST 26TH STREET,
SUITE 115, BRYAN, TEXAS.
THE COURT WILL HEAR COMMENTS ON THE PROPOSED TAX INCREASE FOR 2005
ALL INTERESTED PERSONS ARE INVITED TO ATTEND SAID HEARING AND
PRESENT THEIR CAUSE, IF ANY, FOR OR AGAINST THE TAX INCREASE FOR 2005.
The Commissioners Courtroom is wheelchair accessible. Handicap parking spaces are available. Any request for sign

PUBLIC HEARING
SEPTEMBER 7, 2005
The Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas held a
Public Hearing in the Commissioners Courtroom in the
Courthouse in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, beginning at 2:00
p.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2005, with the following
members of the Court present:
Randy Sims, County Judge, Presiding;
Lloyd Wassermann, Commissioner of Precinct 1;
Duane Peters, Commissioner of Precinct 2;
Kenny Mallard, Commissioner of Precinct 3;
Carey Cauley, Jr., Commissioner of Precinct 4;
Karen McQueen, County Clerk.
Attached is a list of the citizens and officials in
attendance.
The purpose of the hearing is to hear commentary for or
against the proposed tax increase for 2005.
The County Judge opened the hearing and announced the
proposed rate is $.4650 per $100 valuation.
Demetrios Basdekas asked the Court to leave the rate at
the current $.4725 which he believes will allow the Court to
do a number of things that need to be done, such as raise
employee salaries by giving an 8% COLA, grant the Sheriff's
request for funding, increase the salaries of the County Judge
and the Sheriff and still have money left for the contingency

fund.
In reference to the Commissioners salaries, he went on to
say he would like to see the salaries decreased as positions
are up for re-election. The job has changed over the years.
He said he feels the Court is yielding to pressure of special
interests and keeping salaries of employees low purposely so
that not to be in competition with local businesses as he says
former County Judge Al Jones said in open Court.
There being no further comment, the County Judge declared
the Public hearing closed.
