IN THE COMMISSIONER'S COURTROOM OF THE BRAZOS COUNTY COURTHOUSE, 300 EAST 26TH STREET, SUITE 115, BRYAN, TEXAS. Consider and take action on agenda items 1 - 2: 1. Proposal to increase tax revenues. 2. Set date and time for Public Hearings for a tax increase. 3. Adjourn. The Brazos Center is wheelchair accessible. Handicap parking spaces are available. Brazos County Courthouse • 300 East 26"' St. • Suite 106 • Bryan, Texas 77803 • Fax: (979) 823-6993 trta n 9 COMMISSIONERS' COURT SPECIAL MEETING AUGUST 30, 2005 A special meeting of the Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas was held in the Brazos County Commissioners Courtroom in the Courthouse in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 30, 2005 with the following members of the Court present: Randy Sims, County Judge, Presiding; Eric Caldwell, Commissioner of Precinct 1; Duane Peters, Commissioner of Precinct 2; Kenny Mallard, Commissioner of Precinct 3; Carey Cauley, Jr., Commissioner of Precinct 4: Karen McQueen, County Clerk. The attached sheet contains the names of the citizens and officials that were in attendance. Commissioner Mallard moved to increase the tax rate for 2005 to $.4650 per hundred dollar valuation. Commissioner Cauley seconded the motion The County Judge asked where the additional revenues would go Commissioner Mallard said he would propose increasing the salaries for the Sheriff's Department, create a new position in the Tax Office and the Sheriff's Department. The County Judge asked if revenues will fund everything they want to add. Commissioner Mallard said that yes they would and that he actually hopes it will be more than enough Vol I/ Page NA and can actually adopt a lesser rate. Commissioner Cauley added that he would like to see a 4% across the board Cost of Living Allowance (COLA). Commissioners Wassermann, Peters, Mallard and Cauley voted "Aye". The County Judge voted "No". The motion carried to increase the tax rate for 2005 to $.4650 per hundred dollar valuation. The next matter before the Court was the setting of the dates and times for Public Hearings for a tax increase. On motion by Commissioner Peters, seconded by Commissioner Cauley, the Court voted unanimously to set a public hearing at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2005 and a second public hearing at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, September 12, 2005. There being no further business to come before the Court, the meeting was adjourned.
