:SHOP ON TUESDAY 31 MAY 2005 AT 10:00 A.M.
The orkshop will be held in the Commissioners Courtroom of the Brazos County
Courtuse, 300 East 26`h Street, Suite 115, Bryan, Texas for the purpose of reviewing
syster 13 that could be used to improve courthouse security.
The Br 4#s County Courthouse is wheelchair accessible. Handicap parking spaces are available. Any request for sign

WORKSHOP SESSION
MAY 31, 2005
The Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas met in a
W& kshop Session in the Commissioners' Courtroom in the
C rthouse in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, beginning at 10:00
a on Tuesday, May 31, 2005, with the following members of
tto Court present:
Randy Sims, County Judge, Presiding;
Lloyd Wassermann, Commissioner of Precinct 1;
Duane Peters, Commissioner of Precinct 2;
Kenny Mallard, Commissioner of Precinct 3;
Carey Cauley, Jr., Commissioner of Precinct 4;
Karen McQueen, County Clerk.
Attached is a list of the citizens and officials in
attendance.
The Commissioner's Court met to discuss ways of improving
c#rthouse security. Carlos Guitron, Director of Building
MfIntenance, asked the Court to hold a Workshop in order to
rt~iew systems that could be used in the courthouse to improve
s#urity.
The following individuals made comment:
Carlos Guitron - discussed upgrading the current system
f$'om a basic panic button to something more sophisticated
sj. ce we are building a new Sheriff's Administrative Offices,
Justice of the Peace and Constable, Precinct 3 office.

County Judge - asked why not let the architect suggest a
s Item as they build the facilities.
Carlos Guitron - said we could let the architects know
w) ii t we want.
Commissioner Cauley - suggested if we expand the current
system, llwe do it for everyone rather than just the courts and
l enforcement.
Bill Jeanes, Risk Manager - discussed a public address
s Item for the courthouse
Sheriff - has already discussed security measures with
t architect and they are researching this. It should be
i egrated later.
Commissioner Cauley - Feels someone more qualified such
a' a security firm should be hired.
Carlos Guitron - a security audit was done in 1992. He
w asked to improve panic buttons and needs direction.
County Judge - discussed giving the architect
s cification on the kind of system we want and let them
h dle it. It all needs to be integrated with the main
c rthouse.
Commissioner Cauley - we need a systematic,
c l prehensive, coordinated plan.

Commissioner Peters - first we need to determine if the
c rent system will handle what we want it to do.
County Judge - he thinks some departments need panic
b' tons like the County Clerk, District Clerk, and Tax Office
bflause they deal with a lot of money and the Commissioners
C rtroom because of child support hearings.
Commissioner Peters - the architect is going to need to
as he draws the plans that we want the current system to

Ruth McLeod, Administrative Assistant - pointed out that

Commissioner Mallard - asked if we needed a committee

Carlos Guitron - suggested that he, the Director of the
I ormation Technology Department, the Chief Deputy, the
S' riff and the Risk Manager form a committee.
Chris Kirk, Sheriff - suggested using the building
c' ittee that has already been formed.
County Judge - agreed with the Sheriff.
