Adjourn a ~t i 1 IL . n I i COMMISSIONERS' COURT r II SPECIAL MEETING ~I AUGUST 1, 1988 I. i ~Ii A special meeting of the Commissioners' Court of Brazos !County, Texas was held in the Commissioners' Courtroom in the (Courthouse in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 1, 1988, with the following members of h 11the Court present: ~i R. J. Holmgreen, County Judge, Presiding; Bill J. Cooley, Commissioner of Precinct 1; Walter Wilcox, Commissioner of Precinct 2; ` it Billy E. Pct. 3 Emmett Trant Architect Dick Britten Brazos County Resident i The first matter to come before the Court was a presentation i on the preliminary study of the Minimum Security Jail by local I architect, Emmett Trant. Mr. Trant informed the Court that he had made visitations to five jail facilities and that he had I determined that the new facility would have to be tailored to the specific needs of this area. Those needs being a site of approximately 20 to 25 acres of flat, well drained land on a major traffic artery, support facilities for a future jail population of 336 inmates and five pods accommodating 120 inmates (24 per pod) with unfinished space for three additional pods. ,Mr. Trant further indicated that to date, no suitable location :had been found for such a facility. The County Judge thanked Mr. j RI I `rant for the presentation and added the Court would continue in V 0 L--L~ PAG i f 5 r 4,; Am Commissioners' Court meeting August 1, 1988 I~ I ,!its efforts to locate a suitable site for the facility. The i ;Sheriff indicated that the old county shop site was unsuitable .'due to the proximity of nearby housing subdivisions. Commis- ,I • ;,sioner Wilcox asked the Sheriff if someone in his department 'would be willing to help locate a site whereupon the Sheriff ;.replied only if someone from the Court looked with him. On motion by Commissioner Beard, seconded by Commissioner . I Wilcox, the Court unanimously approved the adoption of a resolution in support of the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation to provide funding for the study, planning, ;engineering and construction of a thoroughfare linking the central Texas cities between northwest Houston and Waco with the ;Dallas Metroplex and further resolved that the Brazos County Commissioners' Court would assist and help in every way possible to insure that the community gives full support to the endeavor. The Court next considered the request by Wixon Water Supply ,to install water lines in precinct 3. The first being a 6" PVC Waterline installed by open cut within the rights-of-way of Pate (Road, Rainbow Trail, Chapel Road and Nunn Jones Road. The second being a 1" PVC Waterline to be installed by boring the Fright-of-way of Hardy Weedon Road and the third being a 8" Waterline to be installed by boring the right-of-way of Deerfield Road. On motion by Commissioner Beard, seconded by Commissioner Cooley, the Court voted unanimously to approve the requests of Wixon Water Supply and authorized the installations.
