Ij A special meeting of the Commissioners' Court of Brazos
1County, Texas was held in the Commissioners' Courtroom in the
Courthouse in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, beginning at 10:00 y
ja.m. on Monday, May 2, 1988, with the following members of the

The first matter before the Court was consideration of
rescinding the order awarding the contract to Central Texas Word
Processing for the purchase of computers for the Metropolitan
Planning Organization. This was necessitated due to the
I
,inablility of Central Texas Word Processing to fulfill the terms
'and conditions set forth in Bid Request No. 88-420. On motion by
I'
;the County Judge, seconded by Commissioner Turner, the Cour*
!!voted unanimously to rescind the order awarding the contract to
!I
(Central Texas Word Processing and to award the contract to the
second lowest bidder, IBM.

The Court next considered awarding the following bids:
Bid No. 88-429 Annual Contract for Operator and Equipment
for Landfill
in a written note, Rebecca Shults, Purchasing Agent,
recommended awarding items 2 & 5 to Cook Construction
and the rest to Young Brothers. Commissioner Cooley
felt that awarding the contract to two contractors
could cause a problem with timing. He also stated that
he had not had the time to discuss the required work
with the bidders. On motion by Commissioner Cooley,
seconded by Commissioner Wilcox: the Court voted
unanimously to delay awarding the annual contract for
an Operator and Equipment for the Landfill.
The Court next considered the following Claims as submitted
by the County Treasurer for payment:

Wilcox, the Court voted unanimously to approve the Claims as

Under other business, Commissioner Beard informed the Court
that he was in the process of negotiating for right-of-way on
Elmo Weedon Road.

,I The County Judge announced there would no longer be an
,agenda item for "Other Business". He cited information obtained
I
at a conference in Austin on open meetings that prohibits
i
iscussion of topics not on the official agenda.

Commissioner Cooley informed the Court that he would be
traveling to Conroe on Wednesday May 4, 1988 to tour a minimum
;i
'security jail and asked if any of the Commissioners or the County
'`Judge would like to travel with him. He went on to tell the
Court that he had gone to Brownsville to view a facility but that
it had been a maximum security jail.
'i Commissioner Cooley asked the County Judge if he had made
arrangements for the appraisals for the widening of FM 60, where

upon the County Judge answered that he had not. ,
fCommissioner Wilcox announced that CPR classes for County
employees and their spouses had been postponed due to low
enrollment but it would be re-scheduled sometime in the fall. {
There being no further business to come before the Court,
the meeting was adjourned.
