1. Approval of the minutes of the meetings held on April 4, 1988,
and April 11, 1988.
2. Consider purchase and the maintaining of three (3) walkie talk-
ies for Alcoholic Beverage Commission.
3. Approve Treasurers Report.
4. Consideration of resolution authorizing application for grant
to support the treatment alternatives to street crime program
for the Sheriff's Department.
5. Approval of Final Plat for Bryan Independent School District.
6. Consider and take action on request from Texas Department of
Public Safety for secretarial assistance.
7. Consideration of change in status of employees.
8. Payment of claims.
9. Other Business - Discussion Only - No Action To Be Taken.

SPECIAL MEETING
APRIL 25, 1988
A special meeting of the Commissioners' Court of Brazos
County, Texas was held in the Commissioners' Courtroom in the
Courthouse in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, beginning at 10:00
a.m. on Monday, April 25, 1988, with the following members of the

Bill J. Cooley, Commissioner of Precinct 1, Absent;
Walter Wilcox, Commissioner of Precinct 2;
Billy E. Beard, Commissioner of Precinct 3, Absent;
Milton Turner, Commissioner of Precinct 4;
Frank Boriskie, County Clerk.

The Court first considered approval of the minutes of the
+Commissioners' Court meetings held April 4, 1988 and April 11,

`,D988. On motion by Commissioner Turner, seconded by
Commis-Isioner Wilcox, the Court voted unanimously to approve the
I
1minutes as submitted.
The Court next considered the purchase and maintenance of
khree (3) hand held walkie talkies to be used by the Bryan Districl
Pffice of the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission for las
enforcement communications. On motion by Commissioner Wilcox,
econded by Commissioner Turner, the Court voted unanimously tc
uthorize the purchase and maintenance of three (3) - hand helc
alkie talkies for the Bryan District Office of the Texas
Alcoholic Beverage Commission.

!a On motion by Commissioner Wilcox, seconded by Commissioner

~lTurner, the Court received, approved and ordered filed as
!!submitted the Treasurer's report for March 1988. t
i, The Court next considered adopting a Resolution authorizing
;!application for a grant to support the Treatment Alternatives to
IIllStreet Crime. The total amount of the Grant is $44,465.00. Such
grant if awarded would be administered by the Sheriff's Office.
It is a five (5) year descending grant to be 100% funded the first
I
year 808 funded the seconded year and so on until the fifth year
.when it would be 1008 funded by the County. On motion by
I ,
!!Commissioner Turner, seconded by Commissioner Wilcox, the Court I
;voted unanimously to authorize the County Judge to make,!
"application on behalf of Brazos County to the Criminal Justice
11 Division, Office of the Governor, for grant funds to be used for E
!I
Ithe support of Treatment Alternatives to Street Crime under
(,category 89-E02 and accept on behalf of Brazos County such grant
!!funds as may be tendered. A copy of the resolution is attached

(hereto.
The Court next considered approval of the final plat of Lot
ill Block 1, Bryan Independent School District encompassing 49.749
I I
(acres in the John Austin Survey #8-Abstract 2 and being the
ilocation of a new school site. Holland Winder, County Engineer,
!stated that he had reviewed the plat and it appeared to be in
!order. On motion by Commissioner Wilcox, seconded by Commissioner
(Turner, the Court unanimously approved the final plat of the
(location of the new school in the Bryan Independent School

~j The next matter for consideration was the funding of a
I
secretarial position to assume all clerical duties currently being
handled by a Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper thus
relieving him to return to the roads to enforce traffic laws.
I~
phis employee will be housed at the office of the Department of
!Public Safety and under the supervision of the Sergeant of this
!area. On motion by Commissioner Turner, seconded by Commissioner
!Wilcox, the Court voted unanimously to fund the position and

instructed Ruth McLeod to prepare the necessary budget amendment.
The Court proceeded to consider the change of status of the
following employees.

The special request of the District Attorney was to hire an
'Assistant District Attorney at the experienced step. On motion by
(Commissioner Turner, seconded by Commissioner Wilcox, the Court
voted unanimously to approve the changes as submitted.

On motion by Commissioner Turner, seconded by Commissioner
Wilcox, the Court voted unanimously to approve the Claims as
submitted.
Under other business,'Commissioner Wilcox reminded the Court
If the CPR classes that will be held for Brazos County Employees
and their spouses on May 4 and 5, 1988 at the Woman's Club on
Carter Creek Parkway.
There being no further business to come before the Court, the
meeting was adjourned.

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING APPLICATION FOR GRANT
TO SUPPORT THE TREATMENT ALTERNATIVES TO STREET CRIME PROGRAM
WHEREAS, the Governor of Texas, through the Criminal Justice
Fund, has a wide range of programs to provide funding for
improvements in our criminal justice system; and
WHEREAS, in implementing the aforementioned programs, the
Governor is making grant funds available for the support of
Treatment Alternatives to Street Crime; and
WHEREAS, Brazos County has a continuing need for a wide range
of Services to be provided through these programs,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSIONERS COURT OF
BRAZOS COUNTY, at its meeting on the 25th day of April, 1988
that:
1. The County Judge of Brazos County, acting on behalf
of Brazos County be authorized to make application
to the Criminal Justice Division, Office of the
Governor, for grant funds to be used for the support
of Treatment Alternatives to Street Crime under
category 89-EO2; and
2. The County Judge be authorized to accept such grant
funds should they be tendered; and
3. This resolution becomes effective upon its adoption.
