A special meeting of the Commissioners' Court of Brazos
County, Texas was held in the Commissioners' Courtroom in the
Courthouse in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, beginning at 1Os00
a.m. on Monday, December 28, 1987, with the following members of
the Court presents
R. J. Holmgreen, County Judge, Presiding;
Bill J. Cooley, Commissioner of Precinct 1;
Walter Wilcox, Commissioner of Precinct 2;
Billy E. Beard, Commissioner of Precinct 3, Absent;
Milton Turner, Commissioner of Precinct 4;
Frank Boriskie, County Clerk.

The first matter to come before the Court was the
consideration of the following bids:
Bid No. 87-403 - Wide Flange Steel Beams for the Road and
Bridge Department
1. W18 x 55 Wide Flange Steel Beams, 40 feet long
2. W18 x 55 Wide Flange Steel Beams, 60 feet long

Commissioners' Court minutes December 28, 1987
Rebecca Shults, Purchasing Agent, recommended
acceptance of the low bid submitted by
Markel Steel. On motion by Commissioner
Wilcox, seconded by Commissioner Turner, 'the
Court voted unanimously to accept the
recommendation of the Purchasing Agent and
award the contract to Markel Steel.
The Court next considered a request from County Court at Law
No. I Judge for a personal computer and printer. On motion by
Commissioner Cooley, seconded by Commissioner Turner, the Court
voted unanimously to approve the request from the County Court at
Law No. I Judge and purchase the computer at a cost of $3,500.00
to be paid for from Bond funds.
On motion by Commissioner Turner, seconded by Commissioner
Wilcox, the Court voted unanimously to retain the firm of McClure
Engineering to prepare the plans and specifications for the
Mumford Road project in Precinct 4. Estimated completion time
for the plans would be two months.
Commissioner Cooley asked the County Engineer about the
status of the parking lot on 27th Street. The Engineer replied
that the replat is drawn to close an alley and the area for the
lot. It was his intention to take the replat before the City
Planning Commission meeting on January 21, 1988.
The Court proceeded to consider the change of status of the
following employees.

The Court next considered the following Claims as submitted
by the County Treasurer for payment:

.On motion by Commissioner Wilcox, seconded bar Commissioner Cooley,
the Court voted unanimously to approve the Claims as submitted.
Under other business, Commissioner Cooley stated that the
Court needed to address the problem of Workers Compensation
coverage for the Reserve Deputy Sheriffs and Deputy Constables.
The County Judge indicated there was a definite need to look into
the matter. Ruth McLeod, Administrative Assistant, informed the
Court that premiums were based on $100 per week per deputy. It was
the consensus of the Court to gather all information necessary to
proceed.
There being no further business to come before the Court, the
meeting was adjourned.
