A special meeting of the Commissioners' Court of Brazos i ,iCounty, Texas, was held in the Commissioners' Courtroom in the (Courthouse in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, beginning at 10:00 i -iA.M. on Monday, February 23, 1987, with the following members of ,the Court present: i I f V® R. Mr. Mazurkiwiez introduced Meatra !I Harrison the District Extension Director for Home Economics and Carol Snedeker Bea Green Sharon Fairchild Rebecca Schults Billy Eubanks Sandy Walker Chuck Clements Terri White Meatra D. Harrison Betsy Harkey Monte Dozier Chester Fehlis Jim Mazurkiweiz Denise Fischer Winfred Pittman Jim Kuboviac Louis Garcia, Jr. Chester Fehlis the District Extension Director for Agriculture who introduced Mrs. Betsy Harkey and Mr. Monty Dozier who had been chosen as the two new county agents for Brazos County. The IlCounty Judge welcomed the two agents and said they would be an asset to Brazos County. Mr. Davis McGill of representing A. G. Edwards and Sons Iwas unable to attend and would reschedule his appearance at a later date. AGE lq6 n4 i • I i i I • Commissioners' Court meeting February 23, 1987 The County Judge read a proclamation from Commissioners' Court joining the American Red Cross and other leaders in the community in designating March 1 through 7, 1987 as Health Awareness Week throughout Brazos County. He then presented the Proclamation to Rhonda Seaton, Vice President of the local chapter of the American Red Cross and a Brazos County employee. The Court next considered approval of the minutes of the Commissioners' Court meeting of February 9, 1987. On motion by Commissioner Turner, seconded by Commissioner Beard, the Court I voted unanimously to approve the minutes as submitted. The Court next acknowledged receipt of a letter from the Texas Justice Court Training Center stating Tom Lyons, Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 had completed the required 20 hour course and ordered it entered it into the official records. The Court next considered a request by Constable Winfred Pittman for the appointment of Matthew J. Huber as Deputy Constable and Thomas E. Jagielski, Rodney W. Anderson and William B. Williamsen as Reserve Deputy Constables for Precinct 7. On motion by Commissioner Beard, seconded by Commissioner Cooley, the Court voted unanimously to approve the appointments. The,Court next considered the following bids: Bid No. 87-333 - Groceries and Staples for March for the County Jail John Godfrey, Jail Administrator, recommended acceptance of the low bid submitted by Sisco Food 'Service. On motion by Commissioner Beard, seconded by Commissioner Wilcox, the Court voted unanimously to award the contract to Sisco Food Service. A copy 1 of the bid tabulation is attached for reference. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Turner. Commissioners Cooley, Turner and Wilcox voted "Aye" and Commis- sioner Beard voted "No", whereupon the County Judge announced the motion carried. On motion by Commissioner Wilcox, seconded by Commissioner Beard, the Court voted unanimously to award the contract equally to White's Mine and Young Brothers on the THD 330 and award the contract to Young Brothers on the THD 350. The Court next discussed the plat of Millican North in Precinct 1. On motion by Commissioner Wilcox, seconded by Commissioner Beard, the Court voted unanimously to authorize the County Judge to sign the ownership certificate on behalf of the County dedicating its use to the public to be used as part of the County Landfill. The County Attorney asked to address the Court about i applying for a qrant to the State Criminal Justice Division for i $21,902.00 to fund the Family Violence Unit until October 1, i 1987 at which time he would apply for a grant from the federal government for continued funding. This money would be used to fund two new employee positions, one a psychiatic intern from A&M and the second a para-professional position to handle the paperwork. All this would be at no cost to the County. On I I motion by Commissioner Cooley, seconded by Commissioner Beard, I the Court voted unanimously to authorize the submission of the I application for the grant and authorized the County Judge to 1 :1 sign the necessary documents.
