VO PAG E 8/ . r I e . 1 i4 h -tit • l f 4 COMMISSIONERS' COURT SPECIAL MEETING OCTOBER 9, 1986 u • A special meeting of the Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas, was held in the Commissioners' Courtroom in the Courthouse in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, beginning at 4:30 P.M. on Monday, October 9, 1986, with the following members of the Court present: R. J. Holmgreen, County Judge, presiding: Bill J. Cooley, Commissioner of Precinct 1; Walter Wilcox, Commissioner of Precinct 2; Billy E. Beard, Commissioner of Precinct 3; Milton Turner, Commissioner of Precinct 4; Frank Boriskie, County Clerk. The following citizens and officials were in attendance: Stub Davis Treasurer Ronnie Crocker Bryan/College Station Eagle Sharon Fairchild Auditor Carol Snedeker County Judge's Secretary Rebecca Schults Purchasing Louis Garcia, Jr. Constable Pct. 4 Ruth McLeod Administrative Assistant Charles Dominike Visitor The first matter to be considered was an amendment to the `ORDER RELOCATING CERTAIN POLLING PLACES" that was adapted by the Commissioner's Court on September 29, 1986. The amendment would add the temporary relocation of the Polling Place for Voting Precinct 25 to the G. W. Williams Tabernacle on Waco Street. On motion by Commissioner Wilcox, seconded by Commissioner Turner, the Court voted unanimously to adopt the AMENDED ORDER RELOCATING CERTAIN POLLING PLACES, a copy of which is attached to and made a part of these minutes. t VO L_ , `S PAGE 813 Commissioners- Court Meeting, October 9, 1986, continued... TEXAS WHEREAS, there exists at the present time one (1) polling place which requires temporary relocation due to the incompletion of the con- struction of the new American Legion Hall; and WHEREAS, the Commissioners court is desirous of temporarily relocating the polling place for voting precinct 25 approximately one- half mile away in the G.W. William Tabernacle on Waco Street; and WHEREAS, there exists at the present time three (3) certain polling places which have become, an inconvenience to the voter and require relo- cating permanently; and WHEREAS, the polling place for voting precinct 2 is located in the Wellborn Water Supply building; and WHEREAS, the daily business of the Wellborn Water Supply has increas- ed causing overcrowded conditions; and WHEREAS, the holding of elections during business hours will interfer with the business of the Water Supply Company; and WHEREAS, the Wellborn Water Supply building will no longer be avail- able for holding elections; and WHEREAS, the Commissioners Court is desirous of permanently relocat- ing the polling place of voting precinct 2 directly across the street in the Wellborn Crnmunity Center on Wellborn Road; and' WHEREAS, the polling place for voting precinct 23 is located in the LBJ elementary school; and WHEREAS, daily attendance at the school has increased in numbers which has prompted the school to occupy the space in which elections are held; and WHEREAS, there is no space in which to conduct an election without causing overcrowded conditions for students and voters; and WHEREAS, the Commissioners Court is desirous of permanently relocat- ing the polling place of voting precinct 23 approximately one (1) mile away in the east end of a building awned by Brazos County known as the "Brazos Center"; and WHEREAS, the polling place for voing precinct 26 is located in the Bryan High School; and WHEREAS, the daily attendance at the school has increased in numbers which has prompted the school to occupy the space in which elections are held] and WHEREAS, the increased number of students has created an overcrowded condition for parking vehichles; and WHEREAS, there is no space in which to conduct an election without j causing overcrowded conditions for the students and voters; and I VOL S PAGE. S I ~I ~<,~i~z .,,:..tu : L u a{ r; : tir.•a..-.~-.-. ,-•..n , - u - - --y.:: cr; - - • f i 1 • • WHEREAS, the Commissioners Court is desirous of relocating the )olling paloe of voting precinct 26 approximately one-fourth ( 1/4) mile sway, in the west end of a building owned by Brazos County known as the 'Brazos Center"1 and WHEREAS, the relocation of the polling place for voting precinct 23 and polling place for voting precinct 26 will necessitate the reformation of voting precincts 23 and 261 and WHEREAS, election precincts 23 and 26 may be reformed to accanodate the relocation of the polling places for voting precincts 23 and 26 without effecting the representative strength of any group in any county or precinct officer and WHEREAS, the Commissioners Court has considered the reformation of such precincts for the convenience of the people of Brazos Countyt Now therefore BE IT ORDERED AW=ED AND DECREED BY THE COMMISSIONERS COURT OF BRAz06 OWNITY, TEXAS, that the polling place for voting precinct 25 be and is temproarily located in the G. W. Williams Tabernacle at 105 Waco Street, Bryan, Texas, and the polling place for voting precinct 2 be andis permanently located in the Wellborn Camnunity Center on Wellborn Road, and that election precincts 23 and 26 be reformed as hereinafter attached and that the polling places for voting precincts numbered 23 and 26 be be and are permanently located in the Brazos Center at 3232 Briarcrest Drive, Bryan, Texas. ADOPTED this 9th day of October, 1986.
