M. on Tuesday, November 30, 1976, with the following members of the Court present: William R. Vance, County Judge, presiding; Bill J. Cooley, Commissioner, Precinct 1; Walter Wilcox, Commissioner, Precinct 2; Randy Sims, Commissioner, Precinct 3; Frank Boriskie, County Clerk. The following citizens and officials were present: Alan Sayre, WTAW John Godfrey, Probation Department Jerry Gray, The Eagle Richard Fronterhouse, Nuche's Store David Henrick, Community Grocery & Market Neeley Lewis, College Station Pamela Able, KAMU-TV Mary Nichols, Auditor Bradley Smith, Judge, County Court At Law Tom McDonald, District Attorney Bud Cargill, Commissioner Elect J. E. Roberts Woody Humphries W. D. Burley, District Clerk Claude Stewart, Brazos Valley Development Council Percy Mims Harlon J. Overstreet, RSVP R. D. Lewis, RSVP Lloyd Joyce, Mayor, City of Bryan Roland Searcy, County Attorney Raymond B. Buchanan, Tax Assessor-Collector J. W. Hamilton, Sheriff , The County Judge opened the meeting with the public hearing on the proposed Budget for 1977 for Brazos County, noting that the Budget had been on file in the County Clerk's Office since November 19, 1976 and that notice had been published in the news paper accord- ing to law. The County Judge recommended the following amendments be made to the budget noting that these changes are being recommended due to requests by various office holders and errors made in preparing the pooposed budget: rZ i ~ j' ~tt i ill {i P. . 1 V County Judge: Secretary's salary $ 7,900 County Clerk: 'Deputies salaries 44,602 Rental of equipment 5,000 District Clerk: ' Deputies salaries 32,387 Part time help 400 Rental of equipment 5,000 Office furniture and equipment 1,000 County Auditor: Assistants salaries 27,708 Tax Assessor-Collector: ° Deputies salaries 97,800 Building and yards: Caretaker, Livestock Arena-part time 2,400 Travel - Electrician 600 Sheriff': Deputies salaries 83,000 Secretaries and matron / 16,532 Gas and oil and lubricants 10,000 Probation Department: Supplies 1,300 General Fund Revenue-Multi-Use Fac. 150,000 Bradley Smith, Judge Elect'of the-'County Court At Law requested that his salary be set at $23,000, the salary for the Court Reporter be set at $10,200 and requested a Law Library allowance of $1,950. Mr. W. D. Burley, District Attorney requested additional space on the second floor of the Courthouse. Mr. Tom McDonald, District Attorney was present and made the following requests: Assistant District Attorney salary increased to $16,000 Juvenile prosecutor salary to be set at 13,500 Seven (7) per cent salary increase for secretaries Mr. Raymond Buchanan, Tax Assessor-Collector was present-and made the following requests: Bookkeepers salary increased to 9,000 Appraisers car allowance - each - monthly 150 One (1) additional deputy, salary to be set at 6,500 Valuation services increased to 7,500 Furniture and fixtures increased by 500 Mr. Roland Searcy, County Attorney was present and made the following requests: County Attorney's Salary to be set at 18,000 Asst. County Attorney - Juvenile Prosecutor 13,000 Investigator salary to be set at 12,000 Secretary, salary to be set at 7,590 Secretary, salary to be set at 6,700 Secretary, salary to be,set at 6,600 Car allowance for Investigator and Juvenile Pros. ea. 150 Car allowance increase for County Attorney 50 LL-PAGIE-~L ~f VOII~PAGED Mr. J. W. Hamilton, Sheriff, was present and made the following • requests: Three additional field deputies salaries to be set at 11,000 Chief Deputy salary increased by' 600 , • One (1) additional vehicle Mr. John Godfrey, Probation officer was present and made the following requests: Assistant Probation officer salary increase by 1,100 Conferences and Assocation meetings increased by 400 Car allowance increased to 125 Out of County travel increased to .16 Foster Care increased to 200 t Mr. Neeley Lewis was present and spoke on the juvenile problem in the area in general and stated that he felt that a Juvenile Pros- ecutor would be a step in the right direction for helping solve the problem. Mr. J. E. Roberts was present and spoke on the $600,000 item in the Budget to be used for construction of the Multi-Use Facility. Mr. Roberts stated that he felt it was not needed at this time and that the upkeep on a facility of that type would be prohibitive. Mr. Percy Mims, taxpayer was present and stated that he felt the ,Multi=Use Facility was not needed at this time and asked that the Court consider the matter very carefully taking into consideration the construction cost and the maintenance. Dr. R. D. Lewis was present and requested that consideration • I be given to the RSVP budget in the amount of $1,800. Mr. Richard Fronterhouse was present and stated that he would support"any increase in law enforcement that the Commissioners would consider. Commissioner Wilcox stated that he felt the repairs budgeted for the Environmental Protection was too high and should be reduced. Commissioner Cooley stated that he felt Commissioner Stasny should have the benefit of the comments made at the Public Hearing -and•inoved that final consideration be deferred to the Regular Meeting on December 13, 1976. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Sims and carried unanimously. There being no further business, the Court adjourned.
