COMMISSIONERS' COURT+: REGULAR MEETING ti SEPTEMBER 13, 1976 A regular meeting of the Commissioners' Court of' Brazos t ' County, Texas, was held in the Commissioners' Courtroom in the Courthouse in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, beginnirq at 10:00 A. M. on Monday, September 13, 1976, with the following present: William R. Vance, County Judge, presiding; Bill J. Cooley, Commissioner of Precinct 1; Walter Wilcox, Commissioner of Precinct 2; Randy Sims, Commissioner of Precinct 3; W. A. Stasny, Commissioner of Precinct 4; Frank Boriskie, County Clerk. The nu-1%,-.es of the previously he11 meetings were examined and approve without change. The Court received, approved and ordered filed as submitted Lhe following reports for August, 1976: W. T. Sistrunk, County Extension Agent; Curtis Taylor, Jr., County Extension Agent; LeRoy Grebe, Jr., County Extension Agent; Mable Walker, County Extension Agent; Wanda L. Pope, County Extension Agent. Bonarriog, The Eagle The first item for consideration was a resolution endorsing the operation of the Manpower Program Activity by the Brazos Valley Development Council in Brazos County. After discussion Commissioner Stasny moved that Brazos County adopt such Resolution of Endorsement. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Sims and carried unanimously. Sheriff Hamilton was present to request additional office help for his department. The Court also received a letter from Edith Kessler, a former secretary in the Sheriff's Office who expressed a desire to return to work in the Sheriff's Department under certain conditions. The question of a matron for the Sheriff's Department was also discussed at this time. After discussion, Commissioner Wilcox moved that the Sheriff be authorized to hire a full time female employee to serve as secretary and matron when needed. Such employee's salary to be set at $2.70 per hour for a 44 hour work week effective immediately. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Cooley and carried unanimously. The Court next discussed the statement of Lone Star Gas Company in the amount of $26,944.62 for costs incurred in the alteration of their gas transmission lines to accommodate the construction of Briarcrest Drive Extension. On motion by Commissioner Sims, seconded by Commissioner Cooley, the Court unanimously voted to pay such statement. Payment to be made out of the Retired Road Bond Fund and the State Lateral Road Fund. Next to be considered was a proposal from Brazos Electric Power Cooperative, inc. for the alteration of the power line that crosses Briarcrest Drive Extension. The estimated cost of the alteration .s . -f I. , „ 1 CD i ' v to be $2,310.98. After discussion Commissioner Sims moved that such proposal be accepted and that the Brazos Electric Power Cooperative, Inc. be instructed to proceed with the necessary work. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Wilcox and carried unanimously. Next to be considered was an application to the Criminal Justice Council for a second year Grant for the Probation Department. Such Grant to be in the amount of $19,081. After reviewing the applica- tion Commissioner Cooley moved that the application be approved and forwarded to the Brazos Valley Development Council for their consid- eration. Motion was seconded by the County Judge and carried unan- imously. On motion by Commissioner Stasny, seconded by Commissioner Wilcox, the Court unanimously voted to advertise for bids for services and supplies in connection with the General Election, November 2, 1976. The Court next considered the final plat of SHERWOOD HEIGHTS PHASE II, in Precinct 1. After careful inspection of the Plat, Commissioner Cooley moved that the plat be approved subject to the following changes: 1. That a utility easement be shown on the unplatted side of Merlin Drive. 2. That block 3 be designated as a lot in Phase I of Sherwood Heights. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Wilcox and carried unanimously. The Court proceeded to the consideration of bids for a four (4) drawer legal file cabinet for the Commissioners' Office. On motion by Commissioner Wilcox, seconded by Commissioner Sims, the Court unanimously voted to accept the low bid of Engineering and Office Supply in the amount of $110.25. Other bids received were from News Office Supply, Advanced Business Equipment and Kraft Furniture Co. On motion by Commissioner Stasny, seconded by Commissioner Wilcox, the Court unanimously voted to accept the bid of Southern Steel Co. for repairs and alterations to the jail equipment, it being the only bid received, and ordered the necessary work be done. Commissioner Wilcox requested authorization to pay a claim in the amount of $5,717.55 out of the State Lateral Road Fund. This amount represented expenses incurred on rebuidling a bridge'in Precinct 2. No action was taken on this request. There being no further business, the Court adjourned. The foregoing minutes were examined and approved in open Court on t4b 8th day of November, 1976.
