Vance, County Judge, presiding; Bill J. Cooley, Commissioner of Precinct 1; Walter Wilcox, Commissioner of Precinct 2; Randy Sims, Commissioner of Precinct 3; W. A. Stasny, Commissioner of Precinct 4; Frank Boriskie, County Clerk. The minutes of t•►is previously held meetings ware examined and approve without change. M. Pattersgn,_Visitor Mary Nichols, County Auditor D. A. Anderson, Visitor R. B. Buchanan, Tax Assessor-Collector The first item to come before the Court was authorization to advertise for a consultant for Phase I for Criminal Justice Council grant funds. At the request of Claude Stewart, this matter was passed until the meeting to be held-August 28, 1976. A proposal by Southern Steel Company for repairs to the jail equipment was passed until more information could be obtained about the proposal and the repairs that need to be done. The County Judge advised the Court that the County's share of surplus lateral road funds available through the Board of County and District Road Indebtedness, as•of August 31, 1976, would be the sum of $20,177.89. Commissioner Wilcox moved that Brazos County request that such sum be transferred'to''Brazos County for the con- struction and improvement of the County's lateral roads. The motion o • was seconded by Commissioner Sims and carried unanimously. +r After receiving an estimate from the Tax Assessor-Collector as to the valuation of property for the year 1976, the'Court discussed " the tax rate for the year 1976. Commissioner Wilcox moved that the tax rate for the year 1976 be set as follows: General Fund $ .70 Road & Bridge Fund .22 Total $ •92 Road & Bridge Debt Service Fund $ .05 Total $ .97 The motion was seconded by Commissioner Stasny and all members being present, Commissioners Wilcox, Stasny, Cooley and the County Judge voted AYE. R 'L . ~•t.l - .:r. .i ,r ~ I L-d-PAr The Court next discussed the excellent manner in which Mike Orozco handled the chairmanship of the Brazos County Bicentennial Committee after the departure of Claude Davis. Commissioner Sims moved that the Court send a'letter of appreciation to Mr.' Orozco.' Motionlwas seconded bj Commissioner Stasny and unanimously carried.' Next to be discussed was the sick leave'portion of the County's Personnel Policy. After'discussion Commissioner Cooley moved that the sick leave policy be amended to read: "UPON WRITTEN APPLICATION SUPPORTED BY COMPETENT MEDICAL EVIDENCE, THE ELECTED OFFICIAL FOR WHOM THE EMPLOYEE WORKS MAY GRANT ADDITIONAL SICK LEAVE AS THE CIR- , CUMSTANCES REQUIRE." Motion was seconded by the County Judge. Commissioners Sims, Cooley and the County Judge voted AYE. Commis- sioner Stasny voted NO. Commissioner Wilcox abstained from voting. The Court next considered bids for an adding machine for the County Clerk's Office. The County.Clerk advised the Court that he had requested bids from several suppliers but had recieved only one bid, and that being from Advanced Business Equipment. On motion by Commissioner Sims, seconded by Commissioner,Wilcox the Court un- animously voted to accept the only bid received in the amount of r $119.95 and authorized the County Clerk to purchase the adding machine. Commissioner Cooley requested the Court to consider the matter •of reapportionment of Commissioners Precincts pointing'out-that the precincts had become unequal due•to.the rapid growth in the southern portion of the County. After discussion, the Court agreed that more information and statistics would be needed before the matter could be considered further. The Court next considered a request by E. W. Sayers, Constable of Precinct 7, that he be allowed to appoint ten auxiliary deputy i Constables in his precinct. After discussion, Commissioner Cooley moved that authorization be give for the appointment of ten cert- ified auxiliary deputies at no cost to Brazos County. He asked chat au action be taken at tnis time, but tnat consideration be given to the matter at a later meeting if a suit- able location was found. 1 Next to be considered were applications for soil conservation work as follows: W. T. Hargett, P. 0. Box 1226, Bryan, requested approximately 5 hours grader work to be done on Fazzino Road off Highway 21 West in Precinct 4. C. B. Jones, Rt. 3, Box 240F, Bryan, requested approximately 2 hours grader work to be done on Hardy Weedon Road across Wixon Creek in Precinct 3. Carroll Wood, Rt. 2, Bryan, requested work-to be done 3/4 mile on Opersteny Road off Highway 21 East in Precinct 3. I , On motion by Commissioner Sims, seconded by Commissioner Stasny, the Court unanimously voted to approve the applications and author- ized the Commissioners to do the necessary work. Raymond B. Buchanan, Tax Assessor-Collector was present to request authorization to pay the two appraisers in the Tax Office overtime for one week.for the purpose of proofing the tax roll to 1 meet certain deadlines. On motion by Commissioner Sims, seconded by Commissioner Cooley the Court unanimously voted to approve the overtime of these two employees. The Court next considered a request from Lone Star Gas Company concerning the laying of a 6 inch intermediate pressure gas line along Gabbard Road from FM 2818 west to Westwood Main St. On motion by,Commissioner Cooley, seconded by Commissioner Wilcox the Court unanimously voted to authorize the laying of such line subject to the following conditions: 1. That Lone Star Gas Company secure the approval of the Commissioner in whose precinct the work is to be done as to the location of the actual work, such approval to be obtained prior to the beginning of actual construction. 2. That Lone Star Gas Company repair all damage done to any road by reason of such construction and restore the road and right-of-way to its condition prior to construction and cause any contractor employed by-it to do likewise. 3. That Brazos Ccunty reserve the right to require the Lone Star Gas Company to relocate any such line at no cost to _ Brazos County, should same become necessary due to the widening, lowering, or other alteration of the road or right-of-way. That Brazos County will in no way be responsible for any 'i damage that might occur to;any exi.sting utility lines in the right-or-way. All members being present, the Court proceeded to approve the following claims for payment as presented by the County Auditor: General Fund Claims 1102 through 1216 Miscellanious Claims 133 through 139 Probation Fund Claims 109 through 121 Shop Claims 78 through 88 Precinct 1 Claims 162 through 177 Precinct 2 Claims 131 through 148 Precinct 3 Claims 113 through 134 Precinct 4 Claims 116 through 135 On motion by Commissioner Stasny, seconded by Commissioner Sims the Court unanimously voted to approve the above claims as submitted.
