COMMISSIONERS' COURT
SPECIAL MEETING
JULY 26, 1976
A meeting of the Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas,
was held in the Commissioners' Courtroom in the Courthouse in Bryan,
Brazos County, Texas, beginning at 10:00 A. M. on Monday July 26,
1976, with the following members of the Court present:
William R. Vance, County Judge,• presiding;
Bill J. Cooley, Commissioner of Precinct 1;
Walter Wilcox, Commissioner of Precinct 2;
Randy Sims, Commissioner of Precinct 3;
W. A. Stasny, Commissioner of Precinct 4;
Frank Boriskie, County Clerk.
The following citizens and officials were in attendance;
Mervin Peter, Bryan, College Station Chamber of Commerce
Art King, Brazos County Youth Livestock Assn.
Jerry Windham, Brazos County Equestrian 4-H.
Don Ladewig, Bryan, College Station Chamber of Commerce
Bill Kling, Kling Engineering and Surveying
C. M. Patterson, Observer
Alan Sayers, Reporter, WTAW Radio
June T. Bonarrigo, Reporter, The Eagle
Raymond Buchanan, Tax Assessor Collector
Jack Hodges, Reporter, KBTX - TV

Mr. Mervin Peters presented the Court with a resolution passed
by the Bryan-College Station Chamber of Commerce supporting the
Mulit-Use Facility and requesting the County to construct a County
Livestock Pavilion for youth livestock and horse shows at the Brazos
County Livesock Arena and a set of plans for such facility. Mr.
Peters stated that various organizations were willing to help with
the finishing of the pavilion if the County would construct the
building. After discussion, the County Judge.moved to authorize the
Chamber of Commerce to proceed with final plans for the facility,
to the point of letting for bids. Motion was seconded by Commis-
sioner Wilcox and carried unanimously:
The court next considered the`preliminary plat of Rainbow Acres,
Phase I, II, and III in Precinct 1 as presented by Bill Kling, Eng-
ineer. On motion by Commissioner Cooley, seconded by Commissioner

Wilcox, the Court unanimously approved such plat subject to the
alteration of the curve on Rhones Chapel Road.
On motion by Commissioner Cooley, seconded by Commissioner
Sims, the Court unanimously voted to appoint Dr. George McIlhaney,
M.D. as the Health Officer for the Brazos County Health Department.
Judy Wooten with the Probation Department was present to dis-
cuss the posibility of extension of her sick leave to four weeks.
After discussion the County Judge moved to grant the request.
Motion was seconded by Commissioner Sims, with Commissioners Sims
and the County Judge voting "AYE". Commissioners Cooley, Wilcox
and Stasny voted "NO".
The Court next considered the following special claims for
payment:
Installation of hiband, loband and scanner radio equipment
in the County Attorney's automobile. On motion by Commiss-
ioner Sims, seconded by Commissioner Stasny, the Court un-
animously voted to pay for the installation of the County
owned radio equipment only.
Invoice of Warren C. Harmon in the amount of $400.00 re-
presenting travel expense incurred for the pick up a pris-
ioner in Los Angeles, Calif. Action was'deferred unitl
more information could be obtained.
The Court next considered the statement of South/West Planning
Associates in the amount of $5,320.00 for services in connection
with the prepartion of construction documents of Phase I of the
Brazos County Park. A poll of the Court revealed that the County
Judge, and Commissioners Sims, Cooley and Wilcox favored deferment
of the approval until such time as the plans were complete and
presented.
The County Judge announced that he had been contacted by Jack
Irick and Howard Cargill, chairman and vice-chairman of the Brazos
County Landowners Assn. concerning the tax rate for Brazos County
and the extension of the deadline for agricultural exemption. A
discussion with the Tax Assessor Collector revealed that an extension
of the agricultural exemption would'not be possible if the Tax
Office was to meet deadlines for the preparation of the the October
1st tax roll.
There being no further business, the Court adjourned.
