SPECIAL MEETING
,DECEMBER 22, 1975
A special meeting of the Commissioners' Court of Brazos County,
Texas, was held in the Commissioners' Courtroom in the Courthouse
in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, beginning at 10:00 A. M. on Monday,
December 22, 1975, with the following present:
William R. Vance, County Judge, presiding;
Bill J. Cooley, Commissioner of Precinct 1;
Walter Wilcox, Commissioner of Precinct 2;
Randy Sims, Commissioner of Precinct 3;
W. A. Stasny, Commissioner of Precinct 4;
Frank Boriskie, County Clerk.
The County Judge opened the meeting and announced the second
public hearing on the Community Development Program, second action
year,open and stated that the purpose of the hearing was to receive
any comments on the needs, priorities and expenditures to be
specified in the County's application to the DHUD for a Community
Development Program block grant for approximately $101,000.
At this time Judge Vance asked for any comments, asking, that
all comments be addressed to the Court and that the person speaking
give his name, address and group prepresented.
Mrs. Cecil Nabors, 704 Avondale, Bryan, president of the Board
of Directors of the Girls Club of Brazos County, stated that their
organization was in need of funds to renovate and expand the
facilities that they are now using. Mrs. Nabors stated that the
Club was open to girls from age 6 to 18 and had a member ship of
400, and that the club reaches between 20 to 60 members weekly.
Mrs. Nabors stated that the Girls Club would receive $16,500
from the United Fund for 1976 and asked that the County consider
their request in the amount of $50,000.
Mrs. Lola Thompson, 1100 Milner, College Station representing
the Senior Citizens of Brazos County requested that some consider-
ation be given to the older people of the County.

Mr.. Harley Roath,. 3902 ,Kell i,--Bryan ` representing the-Governor's
Committee on Aging, stated that.he"felt the Senior Citizens were,
due some consideration and would ask that.the County contribute
$30,000 toward a Senior Citizen Center.
Mr. Roy Durben, 3605 Oak Ridge, Bryan, stated that this was
a dedicated group of Senior Citizens and he supported them 1008 in
their request for a Senior Citizen Center.
Clara Huggett, 4308 Maywood, Bryan, representing the Sub-
Committee for Aging of the RSVP stated that more and more Senior
Citizens were searching for a location to retire and that the one '
thing that they looked for was some type of activity for Senior
Citizens.
Mr. T. E. Thompson, 2929 Stevens Drive, Bryan, representing
the First United Methodist Church stated that most churches had
a place for the Senior Citizens to gather, but that they were too
small to meet the needs and that a larger facility was greatly
needed for all Senior Citizens. .
Mrs. Lola Thompson state that the Senior Citizens and their
Center could be a service to the community.
Mrs. Leona Shook, 415 W. Brookside Drive, Bryan, stated that
the Senior Citizens do not want to be in competition with other
groups but would like some support.
Judge Vance asked if either of the groups had asked for
financial assistance from the two cities.-,The Girls Club stated
that they had asked at a prior public hearing. The Senior Citizens,.
stated that they had not requested help from either of the two cities.
Judge Vance asked if the Senior Citizens had discussed
the County Park facilities and was told that there was some opposition
due to the location and transportation difficulties.
Judge Vance asked for a breakdown of the money requested from
both organizations.
At this time, Judge Vance asked for any more comments and,
receiving none, announced the public hearing closed.

On motion by commissioners Sims, seconded by Commissioner
Stasny, the Court unanimously voted to postpone the approval of
the pre-application for Community Development, second year funding
until Monday, December 29, 1975 at 10:00 A. M.
On motion by Commissioner Cooley, seconded by Commissioner
Sims, the Court unanimously voted to approve the invoice of South/
West Planning Associates in the amount of $989.24 for services
rendered relating to the County's second year Community Development
pre-application
The Court next considered the County's application to the
Enonomic Development Administration for a grant for the Regional
Multi-Use Facility. After much discussion and on motion by
Commissioner Sims, seconded by Commissioner Cooley, the Court
unanimously voted to adopt a resolution authorizing the filing
of an application with the Economic Development Administration
and appointing the County Judge as the Authorized Representative
of Brazos County. A copy of such resolution is attached to and
made a part of these minutes.
There being no further business, the Court adjourned.
