COMMISSIONERS'' COURT
SPECIAL MEETING
OCTOBER 200,1975A meeting of the Commissioners' Court ofBrazos County,
Texas, was held in the Commissioners' Courtroom in the Courthouse
in Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, beginning at 10:00 A. M. on Monday,
October 20, 1975,, with the following present:
William R. Vance, County Judge, presiding;
Bill J. Cooley, Commissioner of Precinct 1;
Walter Wilcox, Commissioner of Precinct 2;
Randy Sims, Commissioner of Precinct 3;
W. A. Stasny, Commissioner of Precinct 4; f
Frank Boriskie, County Clerk.
The County Judge opened the meeting with the public hearing on
the proposed Budget for 1976 for Brazos County, noting that the
Budget had been•on file in the County Clerk's Office since October
3, 1975 and that notice had been published in the news paper accord-
ing to law.
Mr. W. D. Burley, District Clerk appeared and made the following
reqeusts:
Deputies salaries increased to $30,436
Extra help increased to 1,500
Supplies increased to 6,000
Equipment increased to 5,500
Travel expense increased to 200
Permission to hire one full time deputy and one half time deputy.
Phyllis Dozier with the Arts Council Brazos County appeared to
request that their organization be included in the Budget in the
amount of $6,070.
Mr. Ed Burkhart with the Arts Council requested authorization to
submit a planning proposal for a grant to the Brazos Valley Develop-
ment Council in the County's name. After a discussion, the Court
had - no objection and authorization was given.
Ms. Shirley Plapp and Dr. Ruth Schaffer with the Retired Senior
Volunteer Program appeared to thank the County for previous

support to their program and requested that it continue.
Jack Mennox a local citizen was recognized who stated that his
only purpose in being at the meeting was in support of local govern-
ment.
Linda Peterson with the Welfare Department was present to answer
any questions that the Court might have concerning the budgeted
figure for the Welfare Department.
The County Judge presented a reqeust from the County Extension
Office that the out of county travel for that department be increased
to $800.00.
Raymond B. Buchanan, Tax Assessor Collector requested the following
changes:
Expensenses for Special Assessors increased to $500
Printing and filming increased to 600
Office equipment increased to 600
Deliquesnt tax roll decreased 500
Roland Searcy, County Attorney appeared to request a salary
increase to $18,000 for himself and a salary increase for the
secretary in that office.
Judge Vance stated that the salary of the County Treasurer had
been set at $15,000.00 to bring it in line with the other elected
officials.
At this time the County Judge asked for any further comments
on the Budget and receiving none, announced the hearing closed.
After considerable discussion, and on motion by Commissioner Wilcox,
seconded by Commissioner Sims the Court unanimously voted to defer
final action on the Budget until Friday, October 24, 1975, at 2:00
P. M.
.Dr. Joyce Davis, M. D. Pathologist, with the Department of Health
Carrers at Texas A & M University requested assistance from the
County in obtaining an autopsy room for Brazos County. After much
discussion, Dr. Davis was advised to write a letter to the Court
setting out exactly what would be needed and the approximate cost.

On motion by Commissioner'Cooley,;'seconded bY:Commissioner--
Sims, the Court unanimously approve claims 236 through 255 excluding
Claim 255 for Precinct 2 as presented by the County Auditor for
payment.
On motion by Commissioner Stasny, seconded by Commissioner Sims,., ~I
the Court unanimously voted to approve the Affirmative, Action
`Report for the Community Development Program. f
There being no further business, the Court adjourned.
