COMMISSIONERS'' COURT
SPECIAL MEETING
SEPTEMBER 22'' 1975
A meeting of,the Commissioners' Court of'Brazos County, Texas,
was held in the Commissioners' Courtroom in the Courthouse in Bryan,
•'1
Brazos County, Texas, beginning at 10:00 A. M. on Monday, September
22, 1975, with the following present:
William R. Vance, County Judge, presiding;
Bill J. Cooley, Commissioner Precinct 1;
Walter Wilcox, Commissioner Precinct 2;
Randy Sims, Commissioner Precinct 3;
W. A. Stasny, Commissioner Precinct 4;
Frank Boriskie, County Clerk.
The first item to be considered was the approval of an invoice
from the Brazos Valley Development Council in the amount of $375.00
representing the County's share of the cost of radio equipment for
the Sheriff's Office. On motion-by Commissioner Sims, seconded by
Commissioner Stasny the Court unanimously voted to approve the in-
voice as presented.

The Court next considered the request of the Unitarian Fellow-
ship for exemption from ad valoren taxation on the church property
known as Lot 14, Block 9, West Park Addition in College Station. On
motion by Commissioner Stasny, seconded by Commissioner Wilcox, the
Court unanimously voted to grant such exemption.
Next to be considered was the purchase of a modular ambulance
by Brazos County through the Brazos Valley Development Council, at
a cost to the County of $8,000.00. After a discussion, Commissioner
-Cooley moved that the County Judge be authorized to place the order
for the ambulance and authorize the expenditure of funds. Motion
was seconded by Commissioner Sims and carried unanimously.
Commissioner Cooley next requested permission to purchase a tract
of land in Precinct•1 for a sanitary landfill at $1,500.00 per acre.
After much discussion, Judge Vance moved to-'authorize the purchase of
a 10 acre tract of land not to exceed $1,500.00 per acre on a sales
contract subject to the issuance of a permit to operate a sanitary

landfill on the property. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Cooley,
with Commissioners Cooley, Sims, Wilcox and the County Judge voting
AYE. Commissioner Stasny voted no whereupon the County Judge announced
the motion carried.
The Court next discussed the acquisition of property for a Court-
house sub-station in College Station. After considerable discussion
among the Court and comments from the audience Commissioner Cooley
moved that Brazos County advertise for the purchase of a tract of
land in College Station. Commissioner Sims seconded the motion with
Commissioners Cooley, Sims and the County Judge voting AYE. Comm-
issioners Wilcox and Stasny voted NO, whereupon the County Judge
announced the motion carried.
Next to be considered was a resolution for a referendum propos-
ition to be put on the ballot for the November 4th election on the
Unit System for Brazos County. After much discussion, Commissioner
Sims moved that the County adopt such a resolution and place-the
referendum propostion on the ballot. Motion was seconded by Commiss-
ioner Cooley, with Commissioners Cooley and Sims voting AYE. Comm-
issioners Wilcox, Stasny and the County Judge voted N0, whereby the
County Judge announced the motion failed.
Roland Searcy, County Attorney requested permission to take bids
for office furniture an, a typewriter for that office. After some
discussion and on motion by Commissioner Wilcox, seconded by Commiss-
ioner Stasny, the court unanimously voted to authorize Mr, Searcy to
take bids for the necessary furniture.
The Court next discussed the matter of parking in the Old Bryan
Hospital Parking Lot by employees of General Telephone. Roland Searcy
reported that he had been in contact with the Telephone Company, but
that nothing had been resolved. After much discussion, Judge Vance
moved that the Telephone Company be adivsed that they would be allowed
to continue to use the lot under the same agreement that they had
with the previous owner at a cost of $150.00 per month until November
1, 1975, at which time the lot would be closed. Motion was seconded
by Commissioner Cooley, with Commissioners Cooley, Wilcox and the 44 41.4,

County Judge votinglAYE, Commiss'i'oners Stasny and Sims voted NO
whereupon the County Judge announced,the motion carried and ordered
notification be made to the Telephone Company to that effect. An
alternate agreement was discussed'whereby the County Attorney was
authorized to negotiate with the Telephone Company on a long:iterm
basis with the provision that the Telephone Company construct a park-
ing garage to be•used jbintly by the County and the Telephone Company.
On motion by Commissioner Wilcox, seconded by Commissioner Sims,
the Court voted unanimously to authorize 59 hours for the secretary
in the office of the Justice of Peace, Precinct 4, Place 1.
The Court next discussed a court reporter for Brazos County
on a part time basis
at $350.00
per month.
On motion by Commissioner
Cooley, seconded by
Commissioner
Wilcox, the
Court unanimously voted
to authorize the County Judge to employ such a person.
There being no further business, the Court adjourned.
