HomeMy WebLinkAbout1975-02-03-1000AM-Special• 1 I , I I I COMMISSIONERS' COURT SPECIAL MEETING FEBRUARY 3, 1975 A special meeting 'of the Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas, was held in the Commissioners' Courtroom in Bryan, Texas, beginning at 10:00 A. M. on Monday, February 3, 1975, with the following present: i William R. Vance, County Judge, presiding;. Bill J. Cooley, Commissioner of Precinct 1; Walter Wilcox, Commissioner of Precinct 2; Randy Sims, Commissioner of Precinct 3; W. A. Stasny, Commissioner of Precinct 4; Frank Boriskie,-County Clerk. A slide presentation on child abuse, given by the Department of Public Welfare, was viewed by the Court and visitors, and a report was made by Mrs-Linda Petterson, Supervisor of the Social Services Unit on foster children and foster homes in this area along with the 1974 financial report of the Unit. The next item for consideration was the second year application ,by the Troubled Youth Program. After hearing the views'of Dr. Albert Casey, Program Director, John Godfrey, Probation Officer, W. T. McDonald, District Attorney, and receiving an evalution report from John A. Cocoros, Associate Proffessor, Program Director of Continuing Education with Sam Houston State Univeristy, the Court deferred action until the Regular February meeting so as to have time to study the evaluation report. On motion by Commissioner Cooley, seconded by Commissioner Stasny, the Court voted unanimously to authorize the Bicentennial Committee to use the County postage meter for mailing literature and mail to their members. Commissioner Sims presented a request on behalf of the Texas State Guard for financial assistance. It was pointed out that the County could not make contributions, however the Court would consider a contract with the Guard for services. V0L"ACAS • . - _ ~f~3~.Pr'~CL ' 1 5.4 ThetCourt next heard a presentation by Robert Wimbish of j Southwest Planning Associates on monies that could be available to Brazos County through the Community Development Program. The , Court agreed to consider a proposal by Southwest Planning Associates for services connected with the preparation of any and all preliminary ; applications. Constable E. W. Sayers requested permission to appoint a deputy to help with security at functions held by the LULAC Club at no cost to the County. After a discussion, Commissioners Wilcox moved that 1 Constable Sayers be allowed to appoint a certified deputy for such duties. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Sims, with Commissioners Wilcox, Sims and Cooley voting Aye. Commissioner Stasny voted No. ; The Court next considered the invoice of Bryan Engineering•and Surveying Corp. in the amount of $1,260.00 for work completed on the Villa Maria Road Extension and Finfeather Road to FM 2818. On motion by Commissioner Sims, seconded by Commissioner Cooley, the , Court voted unanimously to pay such invoice out of the Capital Projects 'f Retired Road Bonds Fund. The Court next considered bids for a dump truck for Precinct 3 and Precinct 1., On motion by Commissioner Cooley, seconded by Comm- issioner Sims, the Court voted unanimously to accept the low bid of i Twin City International, Inc. in the amount of $8,874.23. Other bids ~ I received were from Beal Ford Sales, Inc. in the amount of $9,589.40 t and Halsel Motor Company in;-the amount of $8,999.00 and Halsel Motor ' Company in the amount of $9,999.00. The next item was the consideration of bids for a tractor with back hoe-loader for Precinct 4. On motion by Commissioner Sims, I ~ seconded by Commissioner Cooley, the Court voted unanimously to accept the low•bid of Twin City International, Inc. in the amount of $12,966.89. The other'bid being from Hi-Way Machinery company of Waco in the i amount of $16,304.00. ~t i~ i . f I I i r ' ~r-fir+; j~'rv~r `Fl 'yt`ry 4~{~,~.r _ On motion by Commissioner Sims, seconded by Commissioner Stasny, the Court voted unanimously to approve Claims 183 through 241 presented by the County Auditor,for payment. The Court next heard a request from W. T. McDonald,•Jr., District Attorney for consideration to be given for a car allowance for the Assistant District Attorney. There being no further business, the Court adjourned.
