SPECIAL MEETING - NOVEMBER 4, 1974
The Commissioners Court of Brazos County, Texas, convened at

J 2:00 P. M. on Monday the 4th day of November, 1974, pursuant to
' notice given by publication in the Pictorial Press with the following
present:
William R. Vance, County Judge, presiding;
Bill J. Cooley, Commissioner of Precinct 1;
Walter Wilcox, Commissioner of Precinct 2;
' Randy Sims, Commissioner of Precinct 3;
W. A. Stasny, Commissioner of Precinct 4.
The County Judge called the meeting to order and opened the
public hearing on the:Budget for Brazos Ccurty for the year 1975.
The Court heard a request from the Retired Senior Volunteer
a Program that consideration be given to assist their organization
1 in the amount of $1,500,00 when adopting the proposed Budget.
Tax Assessor Collector,.Raymond Buchanan asked that the salary
of the bookkeeper in that office be increased from $6,936.00 to
$7,200.00, and that all officials salaries be raised to $18,000.00.
District Clerk, W. D. Burley, asked that the salary of the
first deputy in that office be raised from $5,280.00 to $5,400.00,
the salary of the second deputy be raised from $5,940.00 to $6,000.00.
Mr. Burley requested that he be allowd an Administrative Assistant
as suggested by the District Court and that he be allowed to hire
an addition deputy at a salary of $5,100.00,
Probation Office John Godfrey asked that he be allowed to hire
an additional employee to act as a fee clerk at a salary of $5,400.00.
Mr. Godfrey also asked for salary increased for the Probation
Administrators and for an increase in automobile allowances as
recommended in his letter to the Court.
Justice of Peace, B. H. Dewey, Jr., asked that the salary
of his clerk be raised to $3.00 per hour and that his salary be
set at $12,000.00.

and for an additional employee to work half time at a salary to be

County Auditor, Mrs. Mary Nichols asked that the salary of the
Assistant.Auditor.be raised from $6,400.00 to $7,200.00.
Commissioner Sims asked the Court to take into consideration the
inflationary condition of the Country and that the Court as a
governing body take this opportunity to do its',part in controlling

f the situation.
After hearing from,all interested persons, Commissioner Stasny
t"moved that the Court defer adoption of the Budget for 1975 until
the regular meeting on November 11; 1974, to give the members of the ~
Court time to study the requests as set`out above. Commissioner Sims J
-,seconded the motion which carried unanimously.
The next item for consideration,was bids for office equipment
for the Commissioners, Court Office. On motion by Commissiotir Sims,,

seconded by Commissioner Wilcox, the Court voted unanimously to
accept the alternate bid of News Office Supply in the amount of

$436.84. Other bids received were from News Office Supply in the
s
amount of $491.60, Advance Business Equipment, Inc., in the amount
of $565.32, and Engineering And Office Supply, Corp, in the amount;:
of $430.00. +
On motion by Commissioner Sims, seconded by Commissioner Wilcox
the Court voted unanimously to purchase one (1) IBM Model 855 Selectric .
II Typewriter with the correcting feature in the amount of $630.00,

the Court unanimously voted to appoint the following persons as

Precinct 21 - College Station Municipal Building
Mrs. Charles Hall - Judge
Mrs. Burns Dubose - Alternate Judge

The temporary committee of the Bicentennial Committee of Brazos County met
and nominated the following individuals to serve as the Executive Conanittee,'
Bicentennial Committee of Brazos County., We hereby submit these names for
your approval.
The persons listed have been contacted and have accepted-the honor and respon-
sibility of serving our community in this important. undertaking.
The committee was selected from the various areas, urban and rural, ethnic
groups and both sexes.
In College Station one person, a Black, was selected, but cannot'accept•the
position. -An alternate black was not selected; therefore, the committee recom-.
mends that the Executive Committee be allowed to
Station to fill•thi.s position. elect a black from College
" Two eleventh grade students, one from Bryan and'one from College S
i to be selected and added to the committee. Station -ire ,
• they will represent the schools. These As graduating seniors in 1976,

It is recommended that a desk, telephone, and space be furnished by the County
for use of the committee and, consideration be given for at least .1 part time
