REGULAR MEETING - JULY 109 1972
A regular meeting of the Commissioners Court of Brazos
County, Texas, was held in the Commissioners Courtroom in the
Courthouse in Bryan, Texas, beginning at 10:00 A. M. on Monday
July 10, 1972 with the following present:
William R. Vance, County judge, presiding;
Raymond A. Nolan, Commissioner of Precinct # 1;
Walter Wilcox, Commissioner of Precinct # 2;
Clyde J. Porterfield, Commissioner of Precinct # 3;
W. A. Stasny, Commissioner of Precinct # 4;
Frank Boriskie, County Clerk.
The minutes of the regular meeting held June 12, 1972 were
read and approved without change.
The Court received, approved and ordered filed as submitted
the following reports for June, 1972:

The Court first heard a presentation by Mrs Denefick of the
Brazos County League of Women's Voters concerning recommendations
for changes in assessment methods for ad valorem taxation by
the Cities of Bryan and College Station, and Brazos County. No
action was taken on this report.
The Court heard a proposal by W. N. (Flop) Colson concerning
a group cancer insurance plan. After such presentation, the Court
authorized Mr. Colson to solicit membership in such group plan
and payroll dudction of the premiums, it being pointed out that such
plan is fully paid for by the individual employees desiring same
and is not manditory.
On motion by Commissioner Nolan, seconded by Commissioner Stasny,
the Court unanimously voted to disburse the sum of $1,909.80 to the
Texas Department of Public Welfare, representing the per capita
administrative expense assessment for the food stamp program for the
current year.
On motion by Commissioner Nolan, sec onded by Commissioner Stasny,
the Court unanimously voted to appoint election judges and alternate
election judges for the current voting year, a copy of the list of
appointments being attached to these minutes and incorporated herein
by reference.
On motion by Commissioner Nolan, seconded by Commissioner Wilcox,
the Court unanimously voted to pay the City of Bryan for fire calls
in the amount of $41.00 for the month of May and $332.00 for the month
of April, 1972.
The County Judge presented an estimate for repairs to the
exterior marble of the Brazos County Courthouse, including painting
all joints with new material, including a backer rod and priming,
submitted by R. & R. Marble Company of Houston, the contractors who
installed•the original marble, at a cost equal to actual expenses,
not to exceed $13,000.00. Commissioner Porterfield moved that such
proposal be accepted. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Wilcox
and carried unanimously.

The Court next considered the matter of the payment of the

E insurance premium for the Courthouse and contents, the alternatives
f3 being to pay a three-year premium in the amount of $5,264.00 or to
pay the first year premium in the amount of $2,106.00 plus interest

on the remainder of the premium at the rate of 8% per annum.

Commissioner Wilcox moved that the entire three-year premium of
$5,264.00 be paid in order to save the interest costs. The motion
was seconded by Commissioner Nolan and carried Unanimously.
On motion by Commissioner Nolan, seconded by Commissioner,Stasny,
the Court unanimously voted to appoint Commissinner Walter Wilcox as
the representative of Brazos County Commissioners Court to the Board
of ;Directors of the Big 8 Resource Conservation and Development
Project, effective immediately.

Sheriff J. W. Hamilton-appeared to request that he be given
permission to adjust the salaries being paid to jailers in such a
manner as to give certain increases where warranted without exceeding
the total amount for jailer contained in the budget for the current
year. Commissioner Wilcox moved that such salaried be adjusted. The
motion was seconded by Commissioner Nolan and carried unanimously.
On motion.by Commissioner Wilcox, seconded by Commissioner
Stasny, the Court unanimously voted to pay the expenses of Foster Care
for the month of•June, 1972, in the amount of $854.66.
On motion by Commissioner Wilcox, seconded by Commissioner
Porterfield, the Court voted to pay Platt Communications the sum of
$49.30 for repairs to the radio used by the Constable, Precinct 7.
On motion duly made, seconded-and carried unanimously, the Court
voted to approved the Public Weighers Bond of Homer B. Adams, with
United States Fidelity and Guaranty as surety.
Commissioner Porterfield moved that consideration be given to
obtaining an outside audit of all county funds, and that the County
Judge be authorized to discuss various proposals with local accountants.
The motion was seconded by Commissioner Nolan and carried unanimously.

Commissioner Stasny requested that Precinct 4 be given authority
to make improvements to the Democrat Crossing Road in Pct. 4, with
authority to expend up to $5,000.00 from the State Lateral Road Fund.
Commissioner Wilcox moved that such authority be given. The motion
was seconded by Commissioner Nolan and carried unanimously.
