REGULAR MEETING - JUNE 12, 1972

! A regular meeting of the Commissioners Court of Brazos County,
Texas, was held in the Commissioners Courtroom in the Courthouse
'i in Bryan, Texas, beginning at 10:00 A. M. on Monday June 12, 1972,
with the following present:
' William R. Vance, County Judge, presiding;
Raymond A. Nolan, Commissioner of Precinct # 1;

The minutes of the regular meeting held May 8, 1972 were read

and approved without change.
The Court received, approved and ordered filed as submitted

-The Court received, considered and approved the following

The first item for consideration was the payment of
the sum of $12,000.00 to the City of Bryan, Texas, for the
County's portion of the construction of Briarcrest Drive
from the Bryan city limits to the Eastern By-pass, pursuant
to an agreement by and between the City of Bryan and Brazos
County, dated May 4, 1971. On motion by Commissioner Stasny,
seconded by Commissioner Nolan, the Court unanimously voted
to make such payment
The Court next considered the payment of the sum of
$2,487.00 to the Texas Dept of Mental Health and Mental
Retardation, for operation of the Community Outreach Center
for the current year. On motion by Commissioner Nolan, seconded
by Commissioner Stasny, the Court unanimously voted to make
such payment for serviceg rendered.
The Court next heard a proposal from the Senior Citizens
of Brazos County, that a survey of older people in the county be
made for the purpose of ascertaining the location, status and
other pertinent information concerning all senior citizens,
it being felt that such information would be helpful in
making applications for projects and grants which would benefit
those persons. After a discussion of the project and methods
of financing same, Commissioner Wilcox moved that the Court
approve, in principle, the survey project and that the Court
offer such support as it may be able to provide in the future
toward the success of the project. The motion was seconded by
Commissioner Stasny and carried uannimously.
The Court next considered the plat of Cedar Creek Estates
a subdivision submitted by James C. Smith, and on motion by
Commissioner Nolan, seconded by Commissioner Wilcox, the Court
unanimously voted to approve such plat for filing, with the
understanding that the County will not be responsible for the
construction, repair or maintenance of any public road within
the subdivision.

On motion by Commissioner Wilcox, seconded by Commissioner
tw / Stasny, the Court unanimously voted to pay the expenses of
f P Foster Care for the month of May, 1972, in the amount of
/r $585.79.
On motion by Commissioner Nolan, seconded by Commissioner
Stasny, the Court unanimously voted to pay an invoice of Voting

Instruments and Products Corporation for the purchase of 50 extra
Styli for the voting machines in the amount of $87.50. 1
The Court next heard a proposal by Sheriff J. IV. Hamilton
that the County join with other counties of the Brazos Valley
Development Council in the purchase of radio equipment through
a joint-purchase agreement under the Criminal Justice Council
of the State of Texas. Present for the presentation were Robert
Caldwell and D. C. Jones, consultants to the BVDC for the area-
wide radio project. After discussion, Commissioner Porterfield
moved that the BVDC be authorized to proceed with the project
on behalf of Brazos County and that the Council be authorized
to receive bids for such equipment as was suggested for the use
of the Sheriff's department, the cost of which was estimated to
be $3,822.00 for the county's portion. The motion was seconded
by Commissioner Wilcox and carried unanimously.
On motion by Commissioner Wilcox, seconded by Commissioner
Nolan, the Court unanimously voted to pay invoices totaling
$1363.05 for the improvement of Oak Lake Road and totaling $3143.04,
for the improvement of Silver Hill Road, both in Precinct 3, such
payment to be made from the State Lateral Road Fund.
On motion duly made, seconded and carried unanimously
the Court authorized the payment of all bills which have been
properly filed and approved for payment.
There being no further business, the Court adjourned.
