HomeMy WebLinkAbout1972-04-10-1000AM-Regular/A -X9V REGULAR MEETING - APRIL 10, 1972 A regular meeting of the Commissioners Court of Brazos County, Texas, was held in the Commissioners Courtroom in the Courthouse in Bryan, Texas, beginning at 10:00 A. M. on Monday April, 10, 1972, with the following present: William R. Vance, County Judge, presiding; Raymond A. Nolan, Commissioner of Precinct 41; Walter Wilcox, Commissioner of Precinct 42; W..A. Stasny, Commissioner of Precinct # 4; Clyde J. Porterfield, Commissioner of Precinct # 3; Fr Enk Boriskie, County Clerk. The minutes of the regular meeting held March 13, 1972, were read and approved without change. The Court received, approved and ordered filed as submitted the following reports for March: B. V. Elkins, Welfare Officerl William T. Sistrunk, County Agricultural Agent; Daniel P. Kubecka, Assistant County Agricultural Agent; Curtis Taylor, Jr., Associate County Agricultural Agent; Pricilla Jones, Home Demonstration Agent. L'• '.J~..'~...'.1~_ _.1~,. - ,t trb r r The first item for consideration was a contract for fire A; protection services proposed by the City of College Station, Texas s providing for an annual payment by Brazos County to said City of the sum of $5,000.00 for fire protection services rendered outside the corporate limits of said city. After discussion, the Court agreed to defer action pending further negotiation with the City,, as to the amount to be paid. The next item for consideration was the designation of the type of voting to be used in elections in Brazos County. Commissioner Wilcox moved that electronic voting devices purchased from Voting Instruments and Products Corporation be adopted and approved for use throughout the county in all election precincts. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Stasny and carried unanimously and it is so ordered. On'motion by Commissioner Wilcox, seconded by Commissioner Stasny, the Court unanimously voted to appoint the following election officials in connection with the use of electronic voting equipment at tuch elections as are conducted with such equipment: Manager of Central Counting Station Troy W. Dean Data Processing Supervisor Carolyn Farrar Clerk, Central'Counting Station Jackie Ferguson The next item for consideration was the appointment of Directors 1 to the Brazos Valley Development Council. On motion by Commissioner Porterfield, seconded by Commissioner Nolan, the Court unanimously voted to appoint Judge William R. Commissioner Wilcox requested that Precinct 2 and 4 be allowed to purchase nine converted railroad tank cars for use as culverts, two to be used on the Poor Farm Road in Precinct 4 and seven on the Dilly Shaw Tap Road and Broach Road in Precinct 2, at a price of $550.00 each, FOB Hearne, Texas, to be paid from the State Lateral Road Fund. On motion by Commissioner Porterfield, seconded by Commissioner Stasny, the Court unanimously voted to authorize such purchase. The Court next considered a request from Liddie B. Arnold, and Glynn A. Williams for the abandoment of a small tract of land, formerly used for a county road and no longer needed due to the completion of the Eastern by pass. On motion by Commissioner Wilcox, 11 1 seconded by Commissioner Nolan, the Court unanimously voted to authorize the County Judge to execute a quit claim deed to such tracts, the Court finding that the persons named are the adjoining property owners and that the property is not now being used for right of way purposes. A copy of such conveyances is attached to theses minutes for full description of the tracts conveyed. Commissioner Porterfield requested authority'to expend funds from the State Lateral Road Fund for improvements to the Smetana Road and the Silver Hill Road in Precinct 3. On motion by Commissioner Nolan, seconded by Commissioner Wilcox, the Court unanimously voted to authorize the expenditure of not to exceed $6,000.00 from the State Lateral Road Fund for the improvement by Blacktopping of the County roads mentioned above. On motion duly made, seconded, and unanimously carried the Court voted to pay all bills which have been properly approved and presented.
