REGULAR MEETING - FEBRUARY 14, 1972
A regular meeting of the Commissioners Court of Brazos County
Texas, was held in the Commissioners Courtoon in the Courthouse in
Bryan, Texas, beginning at 10:00 A. M. on Monday, Februbry 14, 19729
with the following present:
William R. Vance, County Judge, presiding; .
Raymond A. Nolan, Commissioner of Precinct # 1;
Walter Wilcox, Commissioner of Precinct # 2;
Clyde J. Porterfield, Commissioner of Precinct #3;
W. A. Stasny, Commissioner of Precinct #4;

The Court received, approved, and ordered filed as submitted

First item for consideration was a resolution requested by the
Brazos County Community Action Committee concerning the possibility
of the merger of the Brazos County Community Action Committee with
the Robertson County Community Action Program. Commissioner Wilcox
moved that the following resolution be adopted:
Be it resolved that the Commissioners' Court of
Brazos County will cooperate with and encourage
the development of a joint Community Action Agency
between the Robertson County Community Action Prog-
ram and the Brazos County Community Action Committee.
That the Commissioners' Court will cooperate with
the Brazos County Community Action Committee in
seeking consolidation with the Robertson County
EOAC.
That the Commissioners' Court will cooperate with
both the Texas Office of Economic Opportunity and
the Regional Office of the United States Office of
Economic Opportunity in their efforts to bring
about consolidation of the county programs for
the advancement of the OEO funded programs and
HEW funded programs in the immediate areas to be
served by the joint Community Action Agency.
The motion was seconded by Commissioner Porterfield, and carried unan-
imously, and it is Ordered that such resolution be-adopted.
The next item was the opening of bids for the removal of the
improvements from the property situated at 304 East 24th Street,
Bryan, Texas, such bids being as follows:

Ned Abbate - the sum of $69.95
Frank Salvato - the sum of $201.16.
Commissioner Porterfield moved that the high bid of Frank Salvato
be received and approved and accepted, and that such improvements be
sold to the said Frank Salvato under the terms of the bid informat-
ion as published, and that the County Judge be authorized to execute
a bill of sale to the purchaser upon removal of the improvements
from the premises. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Nolan and
c arrived unanimously.
The Court next opened bids for a file cabinet for the
Health Unit, such bids being as follows:
News Office Supply - $49.20
Engineering Office & Supply - $50.00
Commissioner Porterfield moved that the low bid of News Office Supply
be accepted, and that the•file cabinet be so purchased. The motion
was seconded by Commissioner Wilcox, and carried unanimously.
The Court next opened bids for a typewriter for the County
Agent's Office, and agreed to accept the low bid of Otis McDonald
for an Olympia Typewriter in the amount of $393.60. The motion to
accept such bid was made by Commissioner Wilcox, seconded by.Commission-
er Nolan, and unanimously carried.
The Court next considered the filling of two vacancies on
the Brazos County Child Welfare Board, and received the recommendation
of the Board that Jose Grimaldo and the Reverend Bailey Stone be re-
appointed to fill such vacancies. Commissioner Stasny moved that the
persons named be re-appointed. The motion was seconded by Commissioner
Nolan, and carried unanimously.
The Court next heard from representatives of the Steck Comp-
any and Electronic Voting Corporation concerning the possibility of
purchase of electronic voting machines for use by Brazos County and
by other agencies holding elections.

After such presentations the Court agreed to meet.on Thursday,
February 17, 1972 at 3:00 o'clock P. M. for the purpose of consider-
- ing further such electronic voting systems.
On motion duly made, seconded and unanimously carried,
it was agreed to pay the expenses of Foster Care for the month
of January, 1972 in the amount of $649.21.
On motion duly made, seconded and unanimously carried, the
Court voted to approve all bills, reports and pay all bills which
had been properly filed and approved.
There being no further business, the Court adjourned.
SPECIAL MEETING - FEBRUARY 17, 1972
The Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas met in
special called meeting on Thursday, February 17, 1972, at 3:00
o'clock P. M., with all members present.
The first item for consideration was the matter of the
salaries of elected officials of Brazos County, such action having
been deferred from the January, 1972 meeting, pending approval of
the Office of Price Stabilization, Internal Revenue Service, such
approval having been received by letter dated February 11, 1972.
On motion by Commissioner Porterfield, seconded by Judge Vance,
the Court unanimously voted to increase the following salaries,
effective January 1, 1972:

ability of the County to agree with the land owner as to the value.
thereof, Commissioner Nolan moved that the following described tracts
of land be condemned, and that Roland M. Searcy, Jr., attorney at
law, be authorized to proceed with Eminent Domain proceedings in
connection therewith.
The motion was seconded by Commissioner Stasny, and unanimously
carried, and it is so Ordered.
After discussion concerning the advantages and disadvantages
of electronic voting systems for use in Brazos County, the Court unan-
imously agreed to authorize the County Judge to accept bids for such
voting machines as may be deemed necessary to adequately handle the
number of registered voters. anticipated in Brazos County for 1972,
and to authorize the County Judge to seek financing upon the best
available terms therefor.
The County Judge next reported that he had conferred with
officials of the United States Department of Agriculture and the
State Department of Public Welfare concerning the sta-tus of the Food'
Stamp Program for Brazos County, and that no change had been made
in eligibility requirements or other obligations which would be under-
taken by Brazos County upon a renewal or extension of the contract
for the Food Stamp Program. Upon receiving such report, no action
was taken by the Court.
There being no further business, the Court adjourned.
