REGULAR MEETING - JANUARY'10, 1972
A regular meeting of the Commissioners Court of Brazos
County, Texas, was held in the Commissioners Courtroom in the.
i
Courthouse in Bryan, Texas beginning at 10:00 A. M. on Monday,
I January 10, 1972, with the following present;
William R. Vance, County Judge, presiding;
Raymond A. Nolan, Commissioner of Precinct 41;.
Walter Wilcox, Commissioner of Precinct #2;
Clyde J. Porterfiled, Commissioner of Precinct #3;
W. A. Stasny, Commissioner of Precinct #4;
Frank Boriskie, County Clerk.
The Court received, approved and ordered filed as submitted
the following reports for December, 1971:
B. V. Elkins, Welfare Officer;
William Sistrunk, County Agricultural Agent;
Daniel P. Kubecka, Assistant County Agricultural Agent;
Curtis Taylor, Jr., Associate County Agricultural Agent;
Barbara.Sharp, Associate County Home Demonstration Agent.
The Court'received, considered and approved the following
reports from County and Precinct Officers showing official feet of
'office collected and remitted to the County Treasurer according to
duplicate copies of the Treasurer's Official receipts attached
thereto:

The first item for consideration was the setting of salaries
for all County employees for the year 1972. The Court heard the follow-
ing requests:
Constable E. W. Sayers requested that he be granted an increase
in salary to allow him to carry on the duties of his office in
serv-4ng the Justice of the Peace Court of Precinct 7 in College
Station, Texas.
The County Judge stated that the Internal Revenue Service had
approved an accross-the-board increase for all County employ-
ees,; exclusive of the elected officials, in the amount of 7%
greater than the salary being received in'December, 1971.
On motion by Commissioner Porterfield, seconded by Commissioner Nolan,
the Court unanimously voted to increase the salary of the Constable of
Precinct 7 to $140.00 per month, and to amend the budget to provide
therefor.
On motion by Commissioner Stasny, seconded by Commissioner
Nolan, the Court unanimously voted to increase the salaries of all
employees of Brazos County, including the Justices of the Peace, Pre-
cinct 4, Places 1 and 2, and Precinct 7, in the amount of 7% over and
above that being received in December, 1971, which said raises are
within the budgeted amounts for such employees.
On motion by Commissioner Stasny, seconded by Commissioner
Wilcox, the Court'unanimously voted to increase the salary of the book-
keeper in the Tax Assessor-Collector's Office to the amount of $5400.00_
per annum, to increase the salary of the Secretary to the County Judge
to the amount of $5300.00 per annum, and to increase the salaries of
the Chief Deputies in the Offices of the County Clerk and the District
Clerk to the amount of $5200.00 per annum; and to amend the budget to
provide therefor.
On motion by Commissioner Porterfield, seconded by Commissioner
Wilcox, the Court unanimously voted to finally adopt the budget for
Brazos County for 1972, as amended, Iand that the same be filed and follow-
ed throughout the year 1972; a copy of said budget is attached to these
minutes.
On motion by Commissioner Nolan, seconded by Commissioner Wil-
cox, the Court unanimously voted'to pay-the expenses of Foster Care for
the month of December, 1971, in the amount of $793.93.
Commissioner Porterfield moved that Brazos County contract with
General Telephone Company for the installation of a central telephone
system for the Brazos County Courthouse; to include all offices for•which
telephone service is now paid by Brazos,County, and to hire a receptionist

from funds provided by the Federal Government under the Emergency Employ-
ment-Act, which motion was seconded by Commissioner Wilcox. Commissioners
Porterfield, Wilcox and the County Judge voted "aye", and Commissioners
Stasny and Nolan voted "no", whereupon the County Judge announced that
the motion had carried, and it was so Ordered.
The next item of business was the selection by the Court of
the members to serve on the Brazos County Salary Grievance Committee,
to be selected from those persons who served on the,Grand Jury during
the calendar year 1971. The names of all persons so serving having
been furnished by the District Clerk were placed in a hat and drawn,
with the following persons being selected by lot to serve as members
of the Salary Grievance Committee:

E. L. Zweifel, Route 1, Box 76-A,'Bryan, Texas
Mrs. John Hutchison, 4208 Nagle Street, Bryan, Texas
Alternate - N. Morris Clary, 601 E. 30th Street, Bryan, Texas
Alternate - Gregory Rodriquez, 405 Tatum Street, Bryan, Texas
On motion by Commissioner Stasny, seconded by Commissioner
Nolan, the Court unanimously voted to set the following holidays,for
the year 1972:
January 1st
Memorial Day Monday
July '4th
Labor Day.
Thanksgiving
December 25th
j On motion by Commissioner Nolan, seconded by Commissioner,
Stasny, the;Court unanimously voted to accept the low bid of Steck Co.
I in.the amount of $214.00 for two file cabinets for the District Clerk's
Office.
i On motion by Commissioner Porterfield, seconded by Commissioner
Nolan, the Court unanimously voted to divide the Road & Bridge available
funds so that each precinct would receive one-fourth of the total thereof.

On motion duly made, seconded and unanimously carried, it was
voted to pay all bills which had been properly filed and approved.
There being no further,business the Court adjourned.
