REGULAR MEETING -.JUNE 10, 1968
A regular meeting of the Commissioners Court of Brazos
County, Texas was held in the Commissioners# Courtroom in the
;Courthouse in Bryan, Texas, beginning at 10:00 A. M. on'Monday !
June 10, 1968 with the following present:

Mrs. Fannie J. Taylor, Associate Home Demonstration Agent,
requested that funds be provided for transportation for the 4-H
Cluk, Members to a Summer Camp at Huntsville, Texas. On motion
made and seconded the Court agreed unanimously to provide such
transportation.
The Court next witnessed a demonstration of a voting system
which utilized IBM cards as ballots, which may be read and
counted by a computer process. It was pointed out that approxim-
ately 105 such machines would be necessary to allow voting by
this process in each of the County's Precincts and that the
machines would cost the County $185.00 each. No further action
was taken pending a discussion with the City of Bryan and the
Brazos County Democratic Committee as to the possibility of their
renting such devices from the County.
The following order was received from the Honorable W. C.
Davis,,,District Judge and was unanimously approved and ordered
entered in the minutes:
ORDER OF THE DISTRICT COURT
Pursuant to Article 1645 VACS and all other
applicable statutes, the Court hereby appoints MRS. MARY
NICHOLS County Auditor effective June 1, 1968, to November
159 1968, and the Court hereby sets her compensation for
her services an annual salary from the County General Fund
in the sum of Eight Thousand Four Hundred ($8,400.00) Dollars,
the identical salary paid the Brazos County Assessor-Coll-
ector of Taxes, said salary to be paid monthly in equal
installm6nts to said County Auditor, at the rate of $700.00
per month.
IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that this Order shall be
recorded in the Minutes of the District Court, and that
the Clerk of the District Court shall certify the same
for observance to the Commissioners Court which shall
cause the same to be recorded in its minutes. The said
Auditor shall take the oath of office required by law
and file,the proper bonds as required by law.

There was next considered a request from the Area Supervisor
of the Texas Liquor Control Board that the local agent be
furnished private office space. The Court unanimously voted to
allow such agentzthe.use of the space to be vacated by the Brazos

There was next presented for the Courts consideration the
matter of establishment of the Big 8 Resource Conservation and
- Development Project to include the Counties of Brazos, Robertson,
Leon, Madison, Grimes, Waller, Burleson and Lee. Mr. W. R.
McCullough and Mr. Bob Roberts pointed out the advantages of
the establishment'of such a project. On motion by Commissioner'
Dunn and seconded by Commissioner Porterfield the Court unanimously
voted to endorse such a project and authorized the County Judge to
convey by letter its endorsement to Mr. McCullough.
The Court next unanimous) voted to '
y purchase a Model 5600-
Mailing Machine, a Model 0051 Scale and Model 463 Talbe from
Pitney Bowes for use in centralizing the mailing requirements
for all County offices and further authorized the renting of
the necessary Postage Meter-for such equipment.
The Court next voted to sit as the Board of Equalization'
for Brazos County at 9:00 A. M
. on July 1, 1968. •
C. On motion by Commissioner Nolan and seconded by Commissioner

Dunn_ the Court unanimously voted to accept the low bid of Gus
Wehmeyer'and Sons in the amount of $337.65 for the cutting of
a door space and installation of a door frame between the
,County Agent's and Associate County Agent's Offices.
On motion by Commissioner Stasny and seconded by Commissioner
Nolan the Court unanimously voted not to,pay the invoice of the
Southern Pacific Railroad Company in the amount of $43.33 dated,
February, 1968.
The Court next unanimously voted not to pay the invoice of
The'Vernon Law Book Company in the amount of $150.00, dated
lurch 4, 19681 in view of the fact that the Court has authorized
the collection of funds for a County Law Library. i
The County Judge next displayed a copy of a'letter from
i Dr. S. W. IKowierschke, which states that he is unwilling to
perform autopsies for the previously authorized sum of 5150.00

There was next read a letter from the Honorable B. H. Dewey,
Jr., Justice of the Peace, requesting the installation of a door
in the third floor hallway and employing a part time secretary.
No action was taken at this time.
On motion by Commissioner Stasny and seconded by Commissioner.'-'
Nolan the Court unanimously voted to reimburse the Lone Star Gas
Company in the amount of $427.00 for expenses incurred in the
alteration of a 6 inch gas line to conform to FM 2818
construction.
The Court next unanimously voted to pay the invoice of A.,
G..Edward and Son in the amount of $3,250.00 for fees in connection''-
with the sale of $250,000.00 bonds sold March 25, 1968.
On motion by Commissioner Nolan and seconded by Commissioner
Dunn the Court unanimously voted to acquire the old Railroad
right-of-way from the Missouri Pacific Company from Dowling
Road to the City Limits of College Station for the Nagreed sum '
of $400.00 per acre for 9.08 acres. Such conveyance to be by
Quit Claim Deed.
On motion by Commissioner Stasny and seconded by Commissioner
Nolan the Court voted unanimously to pay the Missouri Pacific
Railroad Company the sum of-S40.28 for expense of adjusting the
Western Union Lines in connection with the West by-pass.
Next was presented a request of the Southern Pacific
Railroad Company concerning the spur crossing of the International
Shoe Company at it's intersection with Finfeather Road. On motion
by Commissioner Porterfield and seconded by Commissioner Dunn
-the Court unanimously voted to rei a
mburse the Southern Pacific
Railroad Company the sum of $641.00 for construction 6f the
crossing within the'limits of Finfeather Road and further voted
unanimously not to agree to maintain said crossing and not to
enter into the purposed agreement.
On motion by Commissioner Porterfield and seconded by Comm- `
issioner Dunn the Court unanimously voted to contribute the sum of
$1,552.00 for its share of the 1968-69 budget for the Brazos Valley,
Development Council.
On motion by Commissioner Stasny, seconded by Commissioner
'Nolan the Court unanimously authorized the County Judge to enter'

into agreements with each of the utility Companies which must
relocate utility lines to accomodate construction of the
Highway 6 by-pass; to provide for the reimbursement of such
relocation by the County and State ona 50-50 basis, such amounts,,
to be allowed only upon approval of the Texas Highway Department 1
,
for participation for such reimbursement. It is so ordered that
the.County Judge have such authority. ;
On motion made and seconded the Court unanimously adopted'!'
the following resolution:
WHEREAS proceedings in Condemnation are '
filed from time to time in the County Court ofBrazos
County, Texas, which require the appointment of Special
` Commissioners in Condemnation, and
WHEREAS it is the duty of the Commissioners
Court to set fees for the Special Commissioners as
may be appointed by the County Judge, now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED that effective January 1,
1968, and until further order of this Court that the
fees for Special Commissioners in Condemnation shall be
the sum of $20.00 per day for each day allowed by the
County Judge.
On motion made, seconded and unanimously passed, the Court.
voted to approve all reports and pay all bills which have been O
properly filed and approved.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
