REGULAR MEETING - OCTOBER 99 1967
A regular meeting of the Commissioner's Court of Brazos County
I
Texas, was held in the Commissioners' Courtroom in the Courthouse
in Bryan, Texas, beginning at 10:00 A. M. on Monday, October 9, 1967
with the following present:

William R. Vance, County Judge, presiding;
Raymond A. Nolan, Commissioner of Precinct 1;
George Dunn, Commissioner of Precinct 2;
Clyde J. Porterfield, Commissioner of Precinct 3;
W. A. Stasny, Commissioner of Precinct 4; and
Frank Boriskie, County Clerk.
The minutes of the special meeting held September 19, 1967
and September 29, 1967 were read and approved without change.
The Court received, approved and ordered filed as submitted the
following reports for September:
B. V. Elkins, Welfare Officer;
8. V. Elkins, Veterans Service Officer;
William T. Sistrunk, County Agricultural Agent;
Garland MCllveen, Jr. Associate County Agricultural Agent;
Emily Ritter, County Home Demonstration Agent;
Mrs. Fannie J. Taylor, Associate Home Demonstration Agent;
The Court received, considered and approved the following reports
from County and Precinct officers showing offical fees of office
collected and remitted to the County Treasurer, according to dup-
licate copies of the Treasurer's offical receipts attached thereto:

On motion made and duly seconded the Court unanimously appointed'
Mr. Sistrunk to notify-the City of Brayn, Utility Dept.
to disconnect`
the water at the Bryan Saddle Club until further notice
and to notify
anyone who might have horses corraled there to this eff
ect.
Commissioner Porterfield moved that the sum of $13
,500.00 as
budgeted for the year 19679 be paid into a fund to be k
nown as the
VOLLPAG:--,~
Indigent Hospitalization Fund, to be disbursed by Be V. Elkins under
regulations established by the Indigent Hospital Fund Governing Board,
composed of the County Judge and the City Managers of Bryan and
College Station, if such cities elect to participate. Motion seconded
by Commissioner Nolan and unanimously passed by the Court.
Motion was made by Commissioner Dunn and seconded by Commissioner
Porterfield that Brazos County appeal the awards of the Special
Commissioners in the West By-Pass Condemnation suits, being numbers
166-A, 167-A, 168-A, 169-A, 170-A, 171-A, and 172-A on the Civil Docket
of the County Court of Brazos County, and that an attorney be retained
to give notice of appeal and prosecute such appeals on behalf of the
County. Motion was carried unanimously.
The County Judge made known to the Court that D. Be Cofer, Sr.,
election judge for Precinct 3 has submitted his resignation effective
immediately. On motion by Commissioner Nolan and seconded by Commiss-
ioner Stasny, Mr. Allan Madley was unanimously appointed election
judge for Precinct 3, for the remainder of the year 1967 and Dr. Luther
G. Jones was unanimously appointed as alternate election judge.
Commissioner Dunn made known to the Court that Herbert Smith,
election judge for Precinct 7 has submitted his resignation effective
immediately. On motion duly made and seconded, Mr. Henry Schram was
unanimously appointed election judge for Precinct 7 for the remainder
of the year 1967.
The following order, as received from the Honorable W. C. Davis,
District Judge was unanimously ordered entered in these minutes:

THE STATE OF TEXAS Q
COUNTY OF BRAZOS
I, W. C. DAVIS, Judge of the 85th Judicial District Court,
do hereby name and appoint MILDRED B. CARPENTER as offical
shorthand reporter for the Court in the 850 Judicial District,
effective September 1, 1967, and fix the salary of said reporter
at $6,000.00 per annum from the 1st day of September, 1967 to the
1st day cf January, 1968, at which time the salary shall be in-
creased to $7,200.00 per annum, to be payable at monthly inter-
vals, said salary being within the provisions of Article 2326,
Vcrnon's Annotated Civil Statutes of Texas, as ammended by S. Be
No. 3329 effective August 28, 1967.
IT IS FURTHER ORDERED that this Order be entered in the
Minutes of the District Court of Brazos County as a public re-
cord, and that a copy of this Order shall be filed with the
Commissioners• Court of Brazos County, Texas.
MADE AND ENTERED at Bryan, Texas, this 1st day of Sept., 1967.

The County'Judge then presented a request from the
Justice of the Peace, Precinct #7, Place 1 that the County
furnish such supplies as are necessary for the proper function
of that Court. On motion duly made, seconded and unanimously
passed, Mr. Boyette was authorized to purchase such supplies
with the prior approval of the County Judge.
The Court then discussed a plan presented by the office
of Civil Defense to establish a reporting system for rural
fires through the utilization of the Department of Agriculture's
numbering system. The Court took under consideration a request
that the County furnish information-bearing signs to be
errected near the enterance to each rural property.
On motion made, seconded, and unanimously passed, the Court
voted to approve a IL reports and to pay all bills which have been
properly filed and approved.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
