A regular meeting of the Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas, was held in the
Commissioners' Court room in the Courthouse in Bryan, Texas, beginning at 10:00 A. M., on
Monday,June 12, 1967, with the following present:
W. C. Davis, County Judge, presiding;
Raymond Nolan, Commissioner of Precinct 1;
George Dunn, Commissioner of Precinct 2;
Clyde J. Porterfield, Commissioner of Precinct 3;
W. A. Stasny, Commissioner of Precinct 4; and
Frank Boriskie, County Clerk.
The Court received, approved, and ordered filed, as submitted, the following reports:

B. V. Elkins, Veterans' Service Officer, for month of May, 1967;
William T. Sistrunk, County Agricultural Agent, for month of May, 1967;
Rex Stultz, Asst. County Agricultural Agent, for month of May, 1967;
Miss Emily Ritter, County Home Demonstration Agent, for month of May, 1967;
Mrs. Fannie J. Taylor, Associate County Home Dem. Agent, for month of May, 1967;
Garland McIlveen, Jr., Associate County Agricultural Agent, for month of May, 1967;
Bryan- Brazos County Health Department, for month of May, 1967.
The Court received, considered, and approved the following reports from County and

Mrs. Fannie Taylor requested of the Court funds for providing gasoline for two to
three buses to take children in the 4-H Clubs to a 4-H Camp at Huntsville, Texas, in July,
and'also sufficient funds to pay the drivers of such buses. On motion by Nolan, seconded by
Dunn, the Court voted unanimously to pay for such gasoline and expense of drivers for the
buses.
Dr. Kate Adele Hill, a member of the Brazos County Historical Survey Committee, report
ed to the Court that she had attended a meeting of the Historical Survey Committee in Waco,
Texas, on May 18, 1967, and represented Brazos County at such meeting. On motion made,
seconded, and unanimously passed, a statement for her expenses in the amount of $16.38 was
approved. Dr. Hill further submitted her resignation asla member of the Brazos County
Historical Survey Committee for the reason that she is moving her residence to San Angelo,
Texas. On motion made, seconded, and unanimously passed, the Court selected Mr. W. N.
Williamson to take Dr. Hill's place on the local Historical Survey Committee for the current
year.
There appeared before the Court two attorneys representing the Brazos County Bar
ssociation, Hon. Billy Payne and Hon. Roland Searcy, Jr., who requested the Commissioners'
to establish a County Law Library to be paid for by the establishment and levying of
an additional charge for each Civil case filed in the County and District Courts. After muc
iscussion of the need, desirability, and advisability of establishing such County Law
ibrary and the financing thereof, on motion made, seconded, and unanimously passed, the
rt voted to take same under advisement.
Mr. C. M. R. Deacon, a resident of Precinct 1, appeared before the Court in regard to
twenty-foot easement in the south end of Brazos County running across his property and

be included in the right-of-way of the West Bypass, and Mr. Deacon further pointed out that
the remaining portion of this easement had never been used by the County and that apparentl
there was no possibility that the County would ever use same. This was concurred in by Mr.
Raymond Nolan, Commissioner of Precinct 1, and on motion by Davis, seconded by Porterfield,
the Court voted unanimously to reconvey the unused portion of such right-of-way easement to
Mr. Deacon, his heirs and assigns.
On motion made, seconded, and unanimously passed, the Court,voted to sit as a Board of
Equalization to examine the tax rolls of the County on Wednesday, Jung 21, beginning at
nine o'clock A. M.
The Court next considered the closing of the offices in the Courthouse on Saturday
mornings. It was pointed out that each of the banks in Bryan and College Station were stay-
ing open until seven P. M. on Friday evenings and closing all day Saturday. It was further
pointed out that the City Manager of the City of Bryan had stated that the City Hall would
begin closing at five P. M. on Friday and all day Saturday. After much discussion, on
motion by Stasny, secondedby Davis, the Court voted that the offices in the Courthouse
remain open until seven P. M. each Friday, beginning June 16, and that all offices be close
all day Saturday beginning June 17. Those voting for the motion were Commissioners Stasny
and Porterfield and County Judge Davis. Those voting against the motion were Commissioners
Nolan and Dunn.
The Court next considered request by the City of College Station for the creation of a
Second Place for Justice of the Peace, Precinct 7, in Brazos County. On motion by Com-
missioner Porterfield, seconded by Commissioner Nolan, the Court unanimously passed the
following Order
BE IT RESOLVED, that Justice Court to be designated as Place 1 for Precinct 7 in
Brazos County, Texas, be and the same is hereby created, effective July 1, 1967,
and that the existing Justice Court in said Precinct 7 be designated as Place 2.
On motion by Porterfield, seconded by Nolan, the Court voted unanimously to appoint
A. P. Boyett, Jr., as Justice of the Peace for Precinct 7, Place 1, in Brazos County, Texas,
effective July 1, 1967, and that he be paid forty dollars per month as salary folfauch office
Mr. John Godfrey, Probation Officer for Brazos County, presented to the Court a re-
quest for a new file cabinet, and in connection therewith submitted bids, as follows:
News Office Supply, 587.77, McDonald Office Supply, $85.00, Sears-Roebuck, $94.00.
On motion made, seconded, and unanimously passed, the Court voted to authorize the purchase
of file cabinet from McDonald Office Supply for the sum of $85.00 for use by the Probation
Department. 11
In compliance with request of the Bryan- College Station Chamber of Commerce, the
following Resolution was unanimously passed by the Court
PROCLAMATION BY
THE BRAZOS COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COURT
BRYAN, TEXAS
WHEREAS, the beef industry has been a major segment of the agriculture economy of
the Brazos County area for many years, and
WHEREAS, the beef industry currently produces the major portion of the agriculture
income for the Brazos County area, and,
WHEREAS, the Brazos County Commissioners Court wishes to recognize the contribution +
that the beef industry has made to our economy and the importance of the beef +
industry in the future,
BE IT RESOLVED that the Brazos County Commissioners Court proclaims "JUNE IS BEEF
MONTH" for Brazos County. Also we recommend that every beef consumer share in
recognizing the beef industry in this activity by featuring beef on their tables
for the month of June.
'on motion made, seconded, and unanimously passed, the Court voted to approve all
reports and to'pay all bills which have been properly filed and approved.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.

Mr. Raymond Buchanan, County Tax Assessor and Collector, appeared before
the Court a:
reported that the County Attorney had written letters to nine chronic delinquent tax paye,
and three of them had contacted his office, either by payment or promise to pay at a
definite time, but that the remaining six had not. On motion by Commissioner
Stasny,
seconded by Dunn, the Court voted unanimously to authorize 8hd direct the County Attorney
to institute suit for the collection of all delinquent taxes owing by the following

On motion by Stasny, seconded by Dunn, the Court voted unanimously to further authorize
(direct the County Attorney to write a letter to each tax payer delinquent over $25.00 and
in the event there was no response to such letters tha ysuit be instituted against such
delinquent tax payers.
Hon. Bill Payne, of the Brazos County Bar Association, appeared before the Court in
regard to the proposed County Law Library and the financing thereof. He reported that the
Sra705 County Bar Association had voted unanimously to request the Commissioners' Court to
