M on • August 12, 1966, with the following present rt;z W. C. Davis, County Judge, presiding, Raymond A Nolan Commissioner of Precinct No 1, Cl d J i y e Porterf eld, Commissioner of Precinct No. 3; and W. A Stasny, Commissioner of Precinct 4 1 On motion by Davis, seconded by Nolan, the Court voted unanimously to set the County < tax rate for 1967 at $1 10 per hundred-dollar valuation Motion was made by Commissioner W A Stasny and seconded by Commissioner Nolan to authorize the County Judge to sign the necessary fencing and utility agreement, contractual agreement and papers relative to billings to the State for 50-50 reimbursements on State i Highway 6 from 2 5 miles south of the south City Limits of College Station to approximately 1 mile north of the north City Limits of Bryan (except that portion within the City Limits of I Bryan and College Station). Motion passed unanimously. { Motion was made by Commissioner Stasny and seconded by Commissioner Nolan that Brazos County waives its right to establish values for the procurement of right of way on State Highway 6 from 2 5 miles south of the south City Limits of College Station to approximatel 1 t y mile north of the north City Limits of Bryan (except that portion within the City Limits of Bryan and College Station) Motion passed unanimously i The County Judge next presented a letter dated July 26, 1966, from Mr Joe G. Hanover, Acting District Engineer, District Seventeen, Texas Highway Department, as follows • "The County Commissioners Court is aware of the proposed road from F. M Road 60 near Easterwood Airport to State Highway 6 south of College Station It now appears f ibl t t i h eas o s g e ra ten and extend this location across F M Road 60 to the existing n F M Road 2818 known as the Turkey Creek Road, thereby eliminating a dogleg in alignment See the attached map for general location "Since this route is expected to carry considerable traffic it is planned initially to construct two full travel lanes with paved shoulders and a grade line to provide adequate sight distance A minimum right of way 120 feet wide will be required for this type section "Discussions at recent meetings in the community indicate that industrial and other development proposed for this area might warrant ultimate expansion of this road to four lanes divided The question of initial purchase of adequate right of way for such expansion, approximately 300 feet, was also raised "If the County desires to acquire the right of way initially for a future four lane type facility we will prepare the necessary deeds accordingly. " r On motion made, seconded, and unanimously passed, the Court voted to request of Mr. Hanover that an estimate be made of the acreage involved and the approximate cost of same. Dr. Kate Adele Hill presented the Court a copy of the Report of the Mental Health Committee on the Mental Health Needs and Facilities of Brazos County The County Judge next presented a letter from Mrs Clara Belle Simmons in regard to the Junior Museum, dated August 11, 1966, as follows s "I wish to express my sincere appreciation to you and the County Commissioners for your kindness in allowing us to use the third-floor room for our Junior Museum for four years. Y You were generous with the needed improvements and most patient and understanding when we were delayed in finding a new home "The children of Brazos County are indebted to you for the beginnings of a needed science _ center which can continue to provide a real service to our community life We shall , appreciate your continued support and cooperation." SPECIAL MEETING - SEPTEMBER 8, 1966 A special meeting of the Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas, was held in the Courthouse in Bryan on September 8, 1966, with the following present W. C. Davis, County Judge presiding, Raymond A. Nolan, Commissioner of Precinct 1; George Dunn, Commissioner of Precinct 2, and W. A. Stasny, Commissioner of Precinct 4. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the problem in regard to the Pinfeather Road extension, concerning telephone lines located beneath the right-of-way of the road It was reported that one telephone tine had been broken and the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company had requested the County to authorize them to remove the entire line lying beneath the right- of-way of the road at a cost of $2,600 00 After discussion, on motion by Nolan, seconded by Dunn, the Court voted unanimously to authorize the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company to re- locate the telephone line lying beneath the Pinfeather Road extension, and that the County pay up to $2,600.00 for such relocation.
