A regular meeting of the Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas, was held in the Commissioners' Court room in the Courthouse in Bryan, Texas, beginning at LO 00 A. M., on Monday, August 8, 1966, with the following present W C Davis, County Judge, presiding, Raymond A Nolan, Commissioner of Precinct L, George Dunn, Commissioner of Precinct 2, Clyde J. Porterfield, Commissioner of Precinct 3, W. A Stasny, Commissioner of Precinct 4, and A. B. "1 What use or uses should the Saddle Club property be made available? (a) The property should be made available to any group or activity which will be of value in the development and well being of Brazos County. (b) Pirot priority use should be for Agricultural and Agricultural related activities with primary emphasis on youth r >r. i} t , .t 536 " August 8, 1966 r ,,(o) This property should be developed to have facilities for and be the place of the Annual Brazos County Youth Livestock Show (d) Horse shown, rodeos, dairy days, purebred livestock shows, and other related activities should be welcomed (e) The long-time goat should be for a facility with permanent structures that ' would have adequate facilities to be used by and for numerous groups and activities 112. What improvements and maintenance (a) Immediate 1 Lock on gate, fence repaired and lock on light switches 2 Notice posted giving people with horses housed on property 30 days to move. 3. Place must be cleaned up - mowed, brush controlled 4. Put County Agent's office in charge of keys, scheduling of activities, etc 5 Question of who is to provide maintenance must be settled. 6. Look into liability and other insurance coverage. (b) Future 1. Long-time goal to develop property into show and rodeo facility that County can be proud of. This will require years and money to accomplish 2. Committee feels that near future priority developments should be included. a Stock Show facility b. Rodeo Repair- Mr Dooley is to present a more detailed report on this. '9. How should the property be administered? (a) The property should be administered by the County since County funds are used to purchase, develop, and maintain the property (b) A committee or board of directors consisting of nine persons should be appointed by the Commissioner's Court to carry ost administration (c) Included on the board, in addition to the nine, should be the County Agent The County Agent should be the executive secretary He should be the key man on the board with his office maintaining keys, schedule of use, records, dtc (d) This board would not be in the business of putting on stock shows and rodeos but their interest and attention should be to the development and maintenance of the property (e) This board would screen uses and activities for the facility, determine mainte- nance needs, set cost for use of facilities, etc to The following Petition was laid before the Court "TO* W. A. Stasney, County Commissioner, Precinct No 4 i + t I . I , 1. 'We, the undersigned, residents of Bryan, Brazos County, Texas, petition the County Commissioners Court to 1. Stop the dumping of trash and waste rubber by the International Shoe Co. on the Vance and Thurmond property on Farm Road No 2818, because of the fire hazard and the danger to the health of our families 2. Put out the existing fire that started July 21st and is still burning In 1965 this same dumping area caught fire on Easter Sunday and burned until September, 1965 'SIGNED James B. Morgan, 2013 Finfeather The County Judge next presented to the Court the following letter, and on motion made, seconded, and unanimously passed the Court voted to sponsor W R Vance and pay his expenses to the Attorney General's Youth Conference in Austin ' "As you will recall the County sent Bill Vance to the Attorney General's Youth Conference on Crime last year Bill did such an excellent job that we have asked him to return this year as Senior Counselor As the Brazos County Representative for the Youth Conference, I would like to know if the County will once again sponsor Bill with a check in the amount of $24 50 We will have 7 or 8 local young people attending the conference and it will be most helpful to have Bill in Austin at that time "Thank you for your help in this matter "Sincerely, /e/ Ridley (E Ridley Briggs) " On motion by Stasny, seconded by Nolan, the Court voted unanimously to accept a balance of $2,960 83 from the Board of County and District Road Indebtedness, Austin, Texas, representing the County's balance of the surplus in the Lateral Road Account, which amount is to be used for improving the lateral roads in the four Precincts of Brazos County, and it is so ordered On motion made, seconded, and unanimously passed, the Court voted to approve all reports and to pay all bills which have been properly filed and approved There being no further business, the meeting adjourned i F I ran to to 11 to It of t " It ~t
