Justices of the Peace B H Dewey, Jr , and Jess B. McGee asked the Court to set
salaries for their offices at $600 00 per month beginning January 1, 1966, when the new Code
of Criminal Procedure goes into effective and Justices no longer will have salaries based on

fees and court costs The Court's attention was called to the increased work load, night and
Sunday calls Mr Dewey also asked the Court to include in the budget for 1966 a Justice

that all requests would be duly considered
Judge Davis next presented a bill from the Brazos County Schools for a total of

$259.12, for Special trip made to Houston, Brazos County 4-H Club, 4 buses, each made 217
miles, total of 868 miles @ $0 20 per mile, $179 60, 41drivere at $21.98 each, $85.52.
Mr. Stasny stated that he had taken care of this by hauling gravel and other work, and Mr.
Dunn stated he had done likewise. ,
Judge Davis reported that the Budget would be completed shortly, to be filed and

then acted upon in August after public hearing ,
Commissioner Dunn asked permission of the Court to obtain bids on a front-and loader

and also on a maintainer, and Commissioner Porterfield asked permission to obtain bids on a "
carried,
loader. On motion made, seconded, and unanimously/ Commissioners Dunn and Porterfield were

reports and to pay all bills which have been properly filed and approved. '

A delegation representing the Bryan Saddle Club, Inc., appeared before the Court.
Mr. Irvin Lloyd, the spokesman for the group, reported that the Board of Directors had unani-
mously approved a determination be made as to whether or not Brazos County was interested in
accepting a donation of a sixteen-acre tract of land lying on Tabor Road owned by the Bryan
Saddle Club, Inc , to be used by the County for Youth activities Mr. Lloyd and the other
spokesmen for the Bryan Saddle Club, Inc . stated that the land and improvements would be
given to the County for merely the assumption by the County of a balance of =14,687.79 owing
to the Bryan Building and Loan Association. Such property consists of a metallic steel build
ing, a rodeo arena with bleacher stands and several other smaller buildings, and such trans-
fer would also include all of the assets of Bryan Saddle Club, Inc , including a bank account
of approximately $1,056 31. After much discussion, the Court took the matter under advisemen
but related to the group that should the membership of the Bryan Saddle Club, Inc , vote to
donate such property to the County, such would be very seriously considered
On motion made, seconded, and unanimously passed, the Court voted to approve a
Weighers' Bond for both J. B. Beard and James R Grubbs
The County Judge presented the following letter received from Mr Charles H. Edge,
a local businessman

We are in receipt today of a restitution of a worthless check we took
some time ago, one of many your office has recovered for us I certainly

serving us in manner as this reflects I wish to commend you to the County
Court Thanks again

On motion made, duly seconded, and unanimously passed, the Court voted to request a
return of the sum of $1,251 43 from the Board of County and District Road Indebtedness of the

State of Texas, which fund was to be credited to the Road and Bridge Pund'and used for the
construction or improvement of lateral roads in Brazos County.
On motion made, seconded, and unanimously passed, the Court voted to approve all
reports and to pay all bills which have been properly filed and approved
At the request of the County Judge, the meeting was recessed until a later date in
August

SPECIAL MEETING - AUGUST 16, 1965
A special meeting of the Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas, was held in
the Commissioners' Court room in the Courthouse in Bryan, Texas, beginning at 10 00 A. M. on
August 16, 1965, with the following present
W C. Davis, County Judge presiding,

Clyde J. Porterfield, Commissioner of Precinct 3,
W. A Stasny, Commissioner of Precinct 4, and '

In accordance with previous action of the Court and public advertisement, the Court
took up the matter of the Budget for the year 1966, as submitted by the County Judge on July
23, 1965.
A delegation from the Bryan Junior Chamber of Commerce appeared and presented a
Resolution to the Court, which Resolution reads, as follows
"RESOLUTION
"Whereas the Brazos County budget for the calendar year 1966 has been prepared and
a public hearing on said Budget has been set for Monday, August 16, 1965, and,
"Whereas the budget proposes salary and travel expense increases from the present
total of $8400 per year to $9600 per year for each County Commissioner, and,
"Whereas, each County Commissioner represents only the voters in his individual
precinct and his duties as Commissioner are such that he is capable of carrying on a full
time business enterprise in addition to his duties as Commissioner,
"Therefore, be it resolved, that the Bryan-College Station Jaycees, as a group of
young men vitally concerned with all aspects of local government, hereby oppose the
salary increases proposed for the County Precinct Commissioners and direct that a copy
of this resolution be mailed to each Commissioner and the County Judge and that a further
copy be delivered to the Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas, to be filed with
the minutes of the budget hearing to be held on August 16, 1965

After much discussion of the proposed budget, on motion made, seconded, and unani-
ously passed, the proposed budget was amended and changed, as follows
one Janitor increased from $2,400 to $2,700
One Janitor increased from $2,400 to $2 700
One Maid for Courthouse increased from 1,750 to $2,050
Secretary to County Agents increased from $2,600 to $2,880
Secretary to Associate Agents increased from $2,000 to $2,280
Jail Cook increased from $1,100 to $1,210
Subject to the above changes, on motion made, seconded, and unanimously passed, the

Court accepted and approved the Budget as submitted, ordered it certified and filed for
official use for the calendar year 19661
