" It is proposed that the work be performed at our standard hourly and unit rates, an
that charges be made only for the work actually performed. The estimated costa given in
the above tabulation are considered to be the maximum amount, based upon our present under-
standing of the project
"The estimated cost for construction of this approximately 2 6 miles of roadway is
$150,000 to $175,000 exclusive of right-of-way coat and only a small amount of relocation
of electrical and other utility lines
"We appreciate the consideration given our firm in preparing this estimate for the
proposed project If desired, we can begin immediately with the project. An estimate
of completion date is difficult to make at this time, for questions of coordination with
the Cities of Bryan and College Station, the University, and others must be made before
field work could be economically initiated.

On motion made, seconded, and unanimously passed, the County Judge was instructed to
request such engineering work to be done by the Texas Highway Department, Texas A&M Universi ,
or the City of Bryan or the City of College Station, and report back to the Court
On motion made, seconded, and unanimously passed, the Court voted to approve all
reports and to pay all bills which have been properly filed and approved
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned

Mr. D. B. Cofer, Jr , County Attorney, appeared before the Court and reported that
there is now a bill pending before the State Legislature to create the office of District
Attorney for the 85th Judicial District Court of Brazos County, and urged the Commissioners'
Court to endorse such legislation and recommend same for passage to the State Senator and
Representative from this District. On motion made, seconded, and unanimously passed, the
Court voted to recommend the passage of such legislation and to urge Senator William T.
Moore and Representative David Haines to use their best efforts to secure the passage of same.

Mr Cofer also requested that the Court recognize the fact that the County Attorney's
office is not obligated nor required by Law to represent the County in condemnation proceed-
inge. After much discussion and as a matter of policy only, the following was unanimously
adopted by the Court*
•
"The Commissioners' Court recognizes that the County Attorney is not required ofr
obligated to represent the County in condemnation proceedings' As a matter of`
policy, the present County Attorney has agreed to represent the County without
cost in condemnation proceedings up to an appeal and trial in the County Court
resulting from any such condemnation proceedings. For services in representing
the County in an appeal to the County Court and, if necessary, appellate Courts,
the Court agrees to pay the County Attorney a reasonable fee for his services in
connection therewith." _
The Court next considered a request from Mr. Jesse Stanfield for the payment of $45 00
for a City Directory, and on motion made, seconded, and unanimously passed, authorized the
payment for same
The Court also considered a request from Constable Stanfield to pay the am of $530.00
for the purchase and installation of a two-way radio previously purchased 'and paid for by Mr
Stanfield. On motion made, seconded, and unanimously passed, the Court voted,to_ postpone

action on' such request until a later date "
The Court next considered bids received by the Sheriff's Department for the purchase of
a new automobile and the trade in of the 1961 Chevrolet automobile now used bybuch Department.

On motion made, seconded, and unanimously passed, the Court voted to accept the bid of
Brazos Motor Company for the 1965'Plymouth for the net sum of $1,884.93 and the additional
sum of $256.00 for factory air-conditioning in said car.
The Court next considered a statement from Dr R Henry Harrison, Jr., Brazos County
Health Officer, for the sum of $232 63 for his expenses to the annual meeting of the Texas
Medical Association On motion made, seconded, and unanimously passed, the Court voted to
pay such expenses for Dr. Harrison
The County Judge next presented the following letter from C. B. Thames, District
Engineer, District Seventeen, Texas Highway Department, P 0. Box 511, Bryan, Texas 77802,
under date of May 4, 1965

"Dear Sir
"A study of the proposed alternate route of State Highway,6 east of College Station
and Bryan has been made, and an estimate of right of way costs has been prepared,
based on present day land values of comparable properties.
"Approximately 320 acres of land will be required outside the city limits of Bryan
and College Station for an estimated amount of $500,000, which includes the costs
of land, damages, improvements and utility adjustments Of this amount, Brazos
County would be expected to provide 50% or $250,000 for the purchase of the right
of way
"We are attaching a blank copy of the Contractual Agreement which will explain _
certain requirements to be followed before the State can reimburse the County
according to law. This copy is for informational purposes only, and the necessary
copies will be preparecin this office prior to entering into the actual contract.
"We wish to emphasize that the above amount is based on an estimate and not on
actual appraisals Also, we are assuming that the land can be purchased through
negotiations Should condemnation be necessary, additional costs may be incurred.
"Similar estimates are being furnished to the Cities of Bryan and College Station.
No further action will be taken by the Texas Highway Department until we are assured
that funds are available from the three local governing bodies to purchase right of
way for the entire project

On motion made, seconded, and unanimously passed, the Court voted to authorize the
County Judge to begin the necessary steps toward the holding of a bond election in Brazos
County for the issuance of $400,000 in County bonds for the proposed alternate route State
Highway 6, and an additional $200,000 in bonds for the purchase of highway equipment and
machinery to be used by the four Precincts

WHEREAS, the State Highway Commission of the State of Texas has heretofore completed a
study and approved the plans for extending F M. Road 159 at Millican Southeast to State
Highway 6 in Brazos County, Texas, as provided for in Minute Order No. 54524, passed by the
Highway Commission of the State of Texas on May 6, 1964, and which Minute Order was on the
11th day of May, 1964, accepted by Brazos County, Texas, at its regular meeting, and,
WHEREAS, the State Highway Commission has found and determined that the hereinafter
described land is suitable for said purpose, and that it is necessary to acquire same for
such road extension, and,
WHEREAS, Brazos County, through its duly authorized representatives, has negotiated
with the owners of such land and has been unable tgtet together with such owners as to the
fair cash market value thereof and damages, if any
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas,
that the County Attorney of Brazos County be and he is hereby authorized and directed to file
or cause to be filed against all owners and lienholders proceedings in eminent domain to
acquire the following described tracts of land for said purposes

equipment and machinery for the purpose of constructing, maintaining and operating , t
