mitted'ie'that submitted by the Mustang Tractor and Equipment Company of Houston, Texas, for

the reason that the experience of the different Commissioners has been that the better

service is obtained from the Caterpillar equipment, and that said bid should be accepted,
therefore, on motion made, seconded, and unanimously passed, the Commissioner of Precinct 1
was authorized and directed to accept the bid of the Mustang Tractor and Equipment Company
for $15,500.00 for the purchase of such equipment.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
The foregoing Minutes, beginning on Page 416 and concluded on Page 419, were examined
a proved in open Court on this the 12th day of November, 1963.

There appeared before the Court Garland McIlveen, who had been recommended to the
Court by the Extension Service at Texas A&M University to fill the office of Negro County
Agent for Brazos County. On motion made, seconded, and unanimously passed, Garland McIlveen
was employed as Negro County Agent for Brazos County at the salary Bet out and adopted in the
budget for 1964, effective November 1, 1963.
On motion made, seconded, and unanimously passed, the Court voted to employ C. L.
Wheeler, Jr., as Assistant County Agent of Brazos County, effective November 1, 1963, at the
salary as set out in the budget for 1964, such employment being made upon the recommendation
of the Extension Service of Texas A&M University
There appeared before the Court Mr James L. Wallace, Instructor, County Road
Employee Training Program of the Texas Engineering Extension Service, who explained to the
Commissioners the functions of the County Road Employee Training Program On motion made,

seconded, and unanimously passed, the Court voted to set aside the last week in February
for the holding of the County Road Employee Training Course in this County, all Commissioners
agreeing to participate and cooperate in such training course and to pay for the expense of
holding same as charged by the Texas Engineering Extension Service
The Court next considered the problem of providing janitorial and maintenance servic
for the Courthouse and grounds. On motion made, seconded, and unanimously passed, the Court
voted to employ G. I. Hair as Superintendent for the maintenance and care of the Courthouse
building and grounds at a salary of $350.00 per month, beginning December 1, 1963. The Court
also voted to authorize Mr. Hair full authority over hiring and firing all janitorial help an
to employ at least two male helpers and one female at salaries to be approved by the Com-
missioners' Court, and to do whatever he deems necessary to properly keep the Courthouse
building in a state of cleanliness and repair
On motion made, seconded, and unanimously passed, the Court voted to purchase an
antenna for the radio station in the Sheriff's office in the amount of $75 00 and a remote
control unit for the jail at a coat of $214 00
On motion made, seconded, and unanimously passed, the Court voted to approve the
public weigher's bond for Bryan W. Bobbitt.
James G. Cronin, Hydraulic 'Engineer with the United States Department of the Interic
appeared before the Court and requested permission for his Department to drill water testing
holes along the bar ditches on County roads. On motion made, seconded, and unanimously pass(
such authority and permission was given to the United States Department of the Interior.
The Court next canvassed the returns of the Special Election held in Brazos County c
November 9, 1963, wherein proposed amendments to the Constitution of the State of Texas were
voted on, and the results as reported by the Judges of each election precinct were approved
and ordered recorded in the office of the County Clerk, as provided by law.
Motion made, seconded, and unanimously adopted to approve all reports and to pay all
ills.
