H. Dewey, Jr , appeared before the Court in regard to the possible redistrict- ; ing of the voting precincts of Brazos County, and after discussion, on motion made, seconded, and unanimously passed, a committee composed of B. H. Dewey, Jr., Chairman, Herbert Shaffer, and Glynn A. Williams, was appointed to make a study of the voting precincts and recommend an .F. w changes that they might find needed or advantageous to the voters of Brazos County and to re- port to the Commissioners' Court their recommendations as soon as practicable. r~. On motion made, seconded, and unanimously passed, the Court voted to pay bill to the News Office Supply in the amount of $8 34, for the use of the Brazos County 4-H Club Dress Revue. On motion made, seconded, and unanimously passed, the Court reaffirmed its Resolution of July 31, relative to the Hon. F. L. Henderson, and ordered the following Resolution printe in the Minutes of this Court WHEREAS, the Honorable F. L. Henderson has been a leading member of the Brazos County and Central Texas Bar for 59 years; and WHEREAS, he has contributed measurably to the welfare of our judicial and legal system in Texas, and especially in Brazos County, and he is a highly respected attorney and citizen of our community NOW, THEREFORE, we, John M. Davis, County Judge, Brazos County, y (SEAL) Texas 411 August 12, 1963 , On motion made, seconded, and unanimously passed, the Court approved the Public weigher's Bond of J B Beard for the amount of $2,500 00, executed by J. B. Beard as principal and the Aetna Casualty and Surety Company as surety, and the Public Weigherfs Bond of G. L. Whitener in the amount of $2,500.00, signed by G. L. Whitener as principal and the, Lawyers Surety Corporation as surety. Motion adopted to approve all reports and to pay all bills which have been properly filed and approved. WHEREUPON, the meeting adjourned ' SPECIAL MEETING - AUGUST 16, 1963 A special meeting of the Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas, was held in the, Commissioners' Court room in the Courthouse in Bryan, Texas, beginning at LO 00 A. M., on Friday, August 16, 1963, with the following present- W. C. Davis, County Judge, Presiding, Raymond A. Nolan, Commissioner of Precinct 1, George Dunn, Commissioner of Precinct 2, Clyde J. PBrterfield, Commissioner of Precinct 3; W A. Stasny, Commissioner of Precinct 4, and A B. Syptak, County Clerk. In accordance with previous action of the Court and public advertisement, the Court (took up the matter of the budget for the year 1964, as submitted by the County Judge on July 26, 1963. On motion duly seconded and unanimously adopted, the Court accepted and approved the budget as submitted and ordered it certified and filed for official use for the calendar year L964 z 0 :y X J The transmittal and summary of this budget are, as follows "July 26, L963 "The Honorable Commissioners' Court of Brazos County "Gentlemen "As your budget officer and in accordance with the law, there is submitted herewith the proposed budget of Brazos County for the fiscal (calendar) year of 1964, including all anticipated revenues and proposed disbursements The budget herewith submitted contains the necessary schedules and tabulations in proper detail "The statutes require that the County budget be prepared and submitted during the month of ^ July and that public hearing thereon be held subsequent to August 15th, after which it shall be finally approved and adopted by the Commissioners' Court and then strictly adhered to through the following year "The within budget calls for a total expenditure during the year L964 of $,631,000 00, which is an increase of $34,000.00 over 1963 "REDUCTION OF INDEBTEDNESS "For the year 1964, Brazos County Road Bond maturities will be for $28,000 00 plus $7,645.00 in interest, making a total of $35,645 00 The State benefit accruing from the State Assumption and the gasoline tax will be sufficient to take care of and absorb the entire amount The total Road Bond indebtedness at the end of 1964 will be $153,000.00 "In addition to road bond maturities, we will have Courthouse- Jail bonds maturing for $40,000 00 plus $9,420 00 in interest, making a total of $49,420.00 This will be the , tenth payment of Courthouse- Jail bonds and after this payment the total balance of Courthouse- Jaiybonds outstanding will be $431,000 00. In addition to these bonds the County has outstanding a series of Courthouse Warrants issued March 15, 1956, remaining unmatured in the amount of $90,000 00 During L964 principal maturing on these warrants will be for $10,000 00 plus $1,800 00 in interest, making a total of $11,800.00. The total outstanding indebtedness on Courthouse- Jail bonds and warrant: on January 1, 1965, will be $511,000 00, of which $431,000.00 will be Courthouse- Jail bonds and $80,000.00 Courthouse- Jail warrants „ "TAX RATE "In 1956 the people of Texas voted to amend Article 8, Paragraph 9, Section 8 Hof the Texas' Constitution so as to allow the Commissioner:' Courts of Texas to exercise discretion and t, ~ •i
