County Judge Davis laid before the Court the following communication- "April 4, 1963 Commissioner's Court County Court House Bryan, Texas Dear sirs, During the March meeting of the Bryan-College Station branch of the American Association of University Women, the following motion was made, seconded and unanimously passed- "Based on a belief in the principle of the secret ballot and private polling, I move that A. A. U W actively support the campaign to secure voting booths for the Bryan-College Station community " It is with a feeling of urgency that we endorse this action Realizing that individual rights are not necessarily violated under the existing voting conditions, we feel however that the individual's freedom of choice would be maximized by providing private voting booths. We respectfully submit this recommendation in behalf of the Bryan-College Station branch of the American Association.of.Univeraity Women Sincerely, /a/ Mrs Joan Kyre Mrs Martin Kyre Legislative Chairman /a/ Peggy K Shafer i J r Mrs Carl Shafer Status-pf-Women Chairman." The Court explained to the ladies present that plywood booths are being prepared for use in the different voting precincts to insure privacy in marking the ballots, and that same will be in use prior to the Primary Election to be held in 1964. , Motion adopted to approve all reports and to pay all bills which have been properly tiled and approved. M. on Thursday, April 11, 1963, with the following present W. C. Davis, County Judge, presiding, Raymond Nolan, Commissioner, Precinct 1• George Dunn, Commissioner, Precinct 2, C. J. Porterfield, Commissioner, Precinct 3, W. A. Stasny, Commissioner, Precinct 4, A. B. Syptak, County Clerk ' On motion by Raymond Nolan, seconded by C. J. Porterfield, the Court voted unanimously to allocate $900 00 to the Sheriff's office to be used for employing extra help by the Sheriff as needed and to pay his Deputies for overtime work as he may deem advisable on motion by C. J. Stasny, Commissioner, Precinct 4 x There was also present at the meeting a delegation of the Trustees of the Brazos County Independent School District, Mr. W D. Bunting, County School Superintendent, and Mr. Raymond Buchanan, Brazos County Tax Assessor and Collector. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the request of the Brazos County Inde- pendent School District for an office in the Courthouse from which to collect the School ?
