"Dear Mr Elkins
"During the past year $497,084 00 was paid to veterans and their families in your
county Please bear in mind that this amount represents only the cases that were
handled through the Veterans Affairs Commission and the organizations with which we
are accredited -
'We realize that none of these benefits were automatic in any sense of the word
The benefits that are available to disabled veterans and their families from the
State and Federal governments must be applied for The size of the awards indicates
that you have done an outstanding fob of assisting the claimants in your count in
making proper application, and, in most instances, you are the one who developed the
claims in order that payments might ,be made.
"We feel that the counties can make no better investment than to maintain a competent
Service Officer such as you to provide the deserving veterans with the kind of aid
which they should receive from a grateful community which they served during time of
war.
"It has been a pleasure to work with you this past year and we wish to commend you
for rendering such valuable service to the veterans, their dependents and survivorso

On motion duly seconded and unanimously adopted, the Court voted to pay all bills
which have been properly filed and approved

SPECIAL MEETING - JANUARY 30, 1963
A special meeting of the Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas, was held in
the County Judge's office in the courthouse at B
tq cyan, Texas, beginning at 10 00 o'clock A.M.,
on Wednesday, January 30, 1963, with the following present
W. C. Davis, County Judge, presiding,
Raymond A. Nolan, Commissioner of Precinct No 1,
George Dunn, Commissioner of Precinct No 2,
Clyde J. Porterfield, Commissioner of Precinct No. 3, and

The purpose of this special meeting was to`receive and consider bids for a new
automobile as requested by the Sheriff for the use of his office and the trading in on such
now automobile of the 1960 Pontiac now being operated by the Sheriff's Department.

Whereupon, Sheriff Hamilton appeared before the Court and submitted the following bids and

After discussion and upon motion made and seconded, the Court voted, as follows
FOR - Stasny, Nolan, Porterfield, Dunn
AGAINST - Davis , 1 _1

to purchase from Bremn-Allen Motor Company of Bryan, Texas, the 1963 Oldsmobile as per the
above bid.
A discussion was then had on the proposed Constitutional Amendment requiring County
Commissioners to run for office on a county-wide basis. On motion made and seconded, the
Court voted to go on record as opposing the said proposed Constitutional Amendment requiring
County Commissioners to run for office on a county-wU~ basis. Those voting for the motion
were Dunn, Porterfield, and Nolan, those opposed Davis and Stasny.
Whereupon, the Court adjourned

the Commissioners' Court room of the Courthouse in Bryan, Texas, beginning at 10 00 A. M. on
