On motion duly seconded and passed, Ed Skubal was appointed Justice of the Peace
of Precinct No 6, to fill vacancy caused by the death of Arthur Corgey.
The Court then considered the bide on a 2-1/2-ton truck to be purchased by the
Commissioner of Precinct No 1, and it appearing to the Court that two bide were submitted,
one by the Cade Motor Company in the amount of $4,398 97 and the other by Corbusier
Chevrolet Company of Bryan, Texas, in the amount of $4,296 98, and it further appearing to
the Court that the bid of the Corbusier Chevrolet Company is the low bid and should be
accepted by the Court, therefore, on motion made, duly seconded, and unanimously passed,
Raymond Nolan, Commissioner of Precinct 1, was authorized to purchase the 1963 Chevrolet -
2-1/2-ton truck from the said Corbusier Chevrolet Company for the sum of $4,296.98
On motion duly seconded and passed, December 24 was declared a Courthouse holida;
On motion duly seconded and passed, the Court voted to pay all bills which have
been properly filed and approved, where funds are available.
Whereupon the Court adjourned

• Canglose, Director of the Brazos County Civil Defense, which letter reads, as follows

"Col R H. Locke moved to Alabama to accept a position in Montgomery, and a
committee consisting of Mr Fred Sandlin, Mr Ran Bosewell, Mr John Hill and Mr.
Bennie Zinn was appointed to find a'replacemeht 'for the fob Col Locke vacated.
"This committee interviewed three highly qualified applicants Mr C A. Bonnets"
Mr W I Chennault, and Mr Henry Alsmeyer Of this group Mr Alsmeyer was
recommended to fill the position of administrative officer on a half-time basis
with a salary of 100 dollars per month and a car allowance of 100 dollars per
month on a shared basis of 40% for Bryan, 40% for Brazos County, and 20% for'
College Station, contingent on approval of all three political subdivisions.
"Inclosed you will find a program paper with the items checked which we feel should
be accomplished in order to provide this-area with a proper defense program This
program paper was defeloped by the State Civil Defense Office and recommended for
local planning.
" The committee and myself agree that due to the workload and travel required to
complete our routine planning, fallout shelter and monitoring objectives, the
above listed salary is conservative.
"I sincerely hope the above recommendations will meet with the County Commissioners '
and your approval.

• Upon motion made, seconded, and unanimously passed, the Court approved the request

of Mr Canglose that_Mr. Henry Alemeyer be appointed to fill the position of Administrative
Officer of the Brazos County Civil Defense Unit at a salary of $100.00 per month and a car
allowance of $100 00 per month, and that Brazos County pay 40% of such salary and car
allowance, effective January 1, 1963. ,

On motion made, duly seconded, and unanimously passed, the Court voted to approve
bonds for the officials who were sworn in on January 1 and 2, 1963.
In response to the advertisement placed in the Bryan Daily Ea to for bids on the
scrap metal in the old Koppe Bridge, the following was the only bid received

Motion was made and seconded to raise all Justices of Peace and Constables (other than
the Constable of Precinct 4) by the sum of $15 00 per month Upon vote being taken, such
motion was rejected

On motion made, duly seconded, and unanimously passed, the Court voted„to reimburse
Miss Emily Ritter, County Home Demonstration Agent, for the sum of $36.77 expended by her
during the year 1962 in the course of her work
On motion made, duly seconded, and unanimously passed, the Court voted to allocate
to the four Precincts on the following basis the item carried in the Road and Bridge Budget
for 1963 as "PRECINCT OPERATING BUDGET"-

Preliminary to the selection of an official County Depository for the biennium
1963-1964, and in accordance with the provisions of Article 2544 of the Revised Civil
Statutes of Texas as amended, by unanimous vote the Court authorized the County Judge to
advertise for bids from interested banks by publication of the following notice in the Bryan
Deity Eagle once each week for three weeks prior to the regular February meeting of the
Court
"NOTICE TO BIDDERS FOR COUV1'Y DEPOSITORY
"Notice is hereby given that Brazos County will receive bids up to ten
o'clock A. M., on Monday, February 11, 1963, for a depository for the biennium of
1963-64, for official county funds, including those of the common school districts
"All funds must be protected by bonds and pledges of cash or securities, as
well as by provisions of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
"All bide must be accompanied by certified check payable to the Commissioners'
Court of Brazos County, Texas, for not less than one-half of one per cent of the
bounty revenue for the year 1962, which shall be forfeited if the successful bidder
does not enter into the necessary bonds and pledges of cash or securities
"Bids will be publicly opened and considered at the time specified, and Brazos
County reserves the right to reject any or all bids

The following letter was presented to the Court by the County Treasurer, and ordered
set forth in the Minutes

"Dear Mr Elkins
"During the past year $497,084 00 was paid to veterans and their families in your
county Please bear in mind that this amount represents only the cases that were
handled through the Veterans Affairs Commission and the organizations with which we
are accredited -
"We realize that none of these benefits were automatic in any sense of the word.
The benefits that are available to disabled veterans and their families from the
State and Federal governments must be applied for The size of the awards indicates
that you have done an outstanding job of assisting the claimants in your county in
making proper application, and, in most instances, you are the one who developed the
claims in order that payments might be made.
"We feel that the counties can make no better investment than to maintain a competent
Service Officer such as you to provide the deserving veterans with the kind of aid
which they should receive from a grateful community which they served during time of
war
"It has been a pleasure to work with you this past year and we wish to commend you
for rendering such valuable service to the veterans, their dependents and survivorso
as evidenced by the records in this office

On motion duly seconded and unanimously adopted, the Court voted to pay all bills
which have been properly filed and approved
Whereupon, the Court adjourned ,
SPECIAL MEETING - JANUARY 30, 1963
A special meeting of the Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas, was held in
the County Judge's office in the courthouse at Bryan, Texas, beginning at 10 00 o'clock A.M.,
on Wednesday, January 30, 1963, with the following present
W. C Davis, County Judge, presiding,
Raymond A Nolan, Commissioner of Precinct No. 1,
George Dunn, Commissioner of Precinct No 2,
Clyde J. Porterfield, Commissioner of Precinct No. 3, and
W. A. Stasny, Commissioner of Precinct No. 4. "
The purpose of this special meeting was to'receive and consider bids for a new
automobile as requested by the Sheriff for the use of his office and the trading in on such
new automobile of the 1960 Pontiac now being operated by the Sheriff's Department.
Whereupon, Sheriff Hamilton appeared before the Court and submitted the following bids and
