A special meeting of the Commissioners Court of Brazos County, Texas, was held in
the Commissioners' Courtroom in the Courthouse at Bryan, Texas, beginning at 10 010100
A.M. on Friday, January 15, 1960, with the following presents
W.C. Davis, County Judge, Presiding;
George Dunn, Commissioner of Precinct Number 2;
Clyde J. Porterfield, Commissioner of Precinct Number 3; and
a
W.A. Stasny, Commissioner of Precinct Number 4.
The purpose of the meeting was to open bide for the purchase of a truck to be
_purchased by the County for the use of Precinct 2, such bide being laid before the

On recommendation of Commissioner Dunn that he believed that the proposal of the
McCormick Farm Equipment Store for the International Harvester truck was the beet pro-
posal for the money and said vehicle more nearly fitted the need and type of truck

required, and on motion made, duly seconded and unanimously passed, the Court voted to
accept this proposal and buy the new Interantional truck for the sum of $2,745.00,
such amount to be paid from funds availab2g(to Precinct 2, to which the said vehicle in
hereby allocated.
On recommendation of Commissioner Dunn and upon motion duly seconded and nunanimous y

adopted, the Court voted to purchase from the Brazos Motor Company, Bryan, Texas, one
1953 International 2 ton truck, for the cash difference of $500.00 after trade in •
allowance for 1950 Studebaker truck, to be paid from funds available to Precinct 2, to
which the said vehicle is hereby allocated. ; n

for maintenance on watershed projects by action of Senate Bill No. 15
printed on June 15, 1959."
On motion duly seconded and unanimously passed, the Court voted to authorize and
direct the Tax Assessor and Collector of Brazos County to assess and collect the main-
tenance tax levied by the Brazos County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1
(Big Creek) on the basis of $1.00 per $100.00 valuation of the property in said distric
as shown on the Brazos County Tax Rolle, and after retaining the statutory amount for
the collection of such taxes, to turn the balance of the amounts so collected over to
the Treasurer of the Brazos County Water Control and Improvement District No. 1.

I am writing this letter to request that my secretary, Mrs. Linda Halbert, have
her salary raised to $200.00 per month.
Mrs. Halbert is a qualified secretary who types, takes shorthand, and keeps all
of the records for the probation office. In addition to performing all of the funct-
Sons normally required of her, she voluntarily performs ether functions for other
officials occupying offices on the third floor. She does typing for both Justice Courts
the Liquor Control Agent, and the County Civil Defense Officer, which is an indication
of both her willingness to work and her fine sense of responsibility.
I would greatly appreciate your consideration in this matter, and I recommend
the salary increase most highly.

per month, effective February 1, 1960.
On motion duly seconded and unanimously passed, the Court voted to seek bide for
the election supplies needed for the General Election to be held in November, 1960, and
the County Judge was instructed to advertise for such bide.
On motion duly seconded and unanimously passed, the Court voted to convey by quit
claim deed the following described property to Mr. D.C. Jones*

IN COMMON SCHOOL DISTRICT
THE STATE OF TEXAS
COUNTY OF BRAZOS
WHEREAS, on the 26th day of January. A. D.. 1960, a petition was presented to
me for an election to be held in (a) Kurten Common School District No. 10, of this
County, on the question of authorizing a tax of and at the rate of (b) $1.50 cents on
the One Hundred Dollars valuation of all taxable property in said District for the purpos
of supplementing the State School Fund apportioned to said District, said petition bear-
ing the requisite number of signatures of the legally qualified resident property tax-
paying voters of said District, who own taxable property in said District and who have
duly rendered the same for taxation. and being in every respect in conformity with law;
and
IT APPEARING that Brazos County contains a population of 43.000 according to

the last United States census, and
IT FURTHER APPEARING that said (a) Kurten Common School District No. 10 has
been heretofore properly established by order of the (c) Brazos County School Board as
passed on the 13th day of June. 1959. which order is of record in (d) Minutes of the
Brazos County School Board and
IT FURTHER APPEARING that said District. as so established. containes an area

of 335 square miles and that no other District has been reduced in area below nine square
miles by reason of the creation of this District
NOW. THEREFORE. I. W. C. Davis. in my official capacity as County Judge of
Brazos County. Texas, do hereby order that an election be held on the 2nd day of April.
A. D., 1960, at (f) Kurten Elementery School. John M. Moore Elementery School and Fair-
view Elementery School, in said (a) Kurten Common School District No. 10. of this County.
as established by order of the (c) Brazos County School Board as passed on the 13th day
of June. 1959. which order 4s of record in (d) Minutes of the Brazos County School Board.
to determine whether or not a majority of the legally qualified resident property tax-
paying voters of said District, who own taxable property in said District and who have
duly rendered the same for taxation, desire to tax themselves for the purpose of supple-
menting the State School Fund apportioned to said District. and to determine whether the
Commissioners' Court of said County shall be authorized to levy, assess and collect ann-

WHEREAS. on the lot day of Marbh. 1960. there was presented to me the petition
of the Board of Trustees of Kurten Common School District No. 10 asking that an election
be ordered in the Kurten Common School District No. 10 of Brazos County. Texas. upon the
question of assuming the bonded indebtedness of laid district as set out in the proposition

Each voter shall mark out with black ink or black pencil one of the above ex-
pressions. thus leaving the other as indicating his vote.
None but resident qualified property taxpaying voters of said School District.
who own taxable property in said School District and who have duly rendered the same for
taxation shall be allowed to vote at said election.
The County Sheriff shall forthwith issue a notice of said election stating in
substance the contents of this election order and the time and place of said election,
and said Secretary shall post a copy of such notice at three different places within the
boundaries of said School District, which posting shall be done not lees than ten days
prior to the date fixed for said election.
Immediately after said election has been held the officers holding the same sha:

The manner of holding said election shall be governed, as near as may be. by
the General Election Laws of this State. except as modified by Article 2786b. Revised
