requested leave of absence to attend the National Meeting of Home Demonstration Agents

to be held in New Orleans, Louisiana, and on motion duly seconded and unanimously
passed, Miss Ritter was granted such leave. _

After much discussion by the Court of the advisability of raising the pay of the
Commissioner
Assistant County Agent, Lloyd Joyce, on motion by/George Dunn, seconded by Commissioner
Clyde J. Porterfield, the Court voted to raise Mr. Joyce's pay from 81,300.00 to
$2,000.00 annually, effective January 1, 1960. Commissioner Stasny voting "NO"-on said
motion and Commissioner Nolan not voting. I _ _

Honorable William T. Moore, Attorney of Bryan, Texas, appeared before the Court
relative to the condemnation proceeding held in 1958 against Lynnwood Boyett, and
offered to settle such suit for the sum of $1,000.00. On motion made, duly seconded
and unanimously passed, the Court voted to settle said law suit for such sum and ~,j
ordered the sum of $1,000.00 to be paid to Mr. Boyett upon his executing a deed convey-
ing the property involved therein to the State of Texas.
The County Judge presented to the Court the question of closing the County
courthouse and offices during holidays in November and December, and on motion made,
duly seconded and unanimously passed, the Court voted to close the courthouse and
county offices on November 11, 1959, November 26, 19599 December 24, 1959, and December
25, 1959, and January 1, 1960.
On motion made, seconded and unanimously passed, the Court approved the Public
Weigher's Bond of Grady Whitener, with Mr. Whitener as Principal thereon, and the Fi-
delity and Casualty Company of New York, Surety.
On motion made, seconded and unanimously passed, the Court voted to invest
the sum of $5,000.00 in the Community Savings and Loan Association of College Station,
Texas, and $5,000.00 in the Bryan Building and Loan Association, said sums to be taken
out of the Interest and Sinking Fund, it being deemed advisable to invest such funds
in said savings and loan associations to draw interest as same were not needed in such
Interest and Sinking Fund at this time.
The County Clerk, A.B. Syptak, requested the Court to authorize two of his
deputy clerks to attend the Bureau of Vital Statistics Conference to be held in Austin,
Texas, on December 3rd and 4th, and on motion made, seconded and unanimously passed,
the Court voted to authorize the attendance at such conference by two deputy county
clerks and the County to pay their expenses at same.
On recommendation of Commissioner George Dunn, and upon motion duly seconded and
unanimously adopted, the Court voted to purchase from Corbusier Chevrolet Company of
Bryan, Texas, one (1) 1960 Chevrolet 2-ton truck for the sum of $3,269.43, and to trade
in a 1957 Chevrolet truck for $843.43, leaving a balance on the purchase price of
L2,426.00, such amount to be paid from funds available to Precinct No. 2, to which
the said vehicle is hereby allocated.
On motion duly seconded and iuanimously adopted, the Court voted to pay all bills
which have bean properly filed and approved.
Whereupon, the Court adjourned.

A regular meeting of the Commissioners Court of Brazos County, Texas, was held
