The purpose of the meeting was to meet with Mr C B. Thames and Mr. J.M. McLaift ,of
the State Highway Department relative to the widening of State Highway No. 6. Both
Mr. Thames and Mr. McLain expressed their opinion that this work was badly needed and
had been approved by the State Highway Department. They further stated that such project
would cost the state approximately $1,500,000 00, and that the State Highway Department
had requested that same be let for bids in April. Commissioner Nolan reported that the
cost to the County of securing right of ways and costs of fencing would be approximately
,$10,000.00. After much discussion, a motion was made, seconded and unanimously passed
and adopted by which the Commissioners' Court accepted Project No. RW 50-1-27 and RW
50-2-25 for the improvements to State Highway No. 6 from College Station to Grimes County
line with the understanding that the County pays 112 of the expenses necessary to secure
the required right of ways and 1/2 of the expense necessary in moving fences along such
right of way. and the State of Texas pay 112 of such costs and expenses.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.

A regular meeting of the Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas, was held in
the Commissioners Courtroom in the courthouse at Bryan, Texas, beginning at 10:00 A.M.,
March 9. 1959, with the following present:
M.C. Davis, County Judge, Presiding,
Raymond A. Nolan. Commissioner of Precinct No. 1;
George Dunn, Commissioner of Precinct No. 2;

After an opening prayer by the County Judge, the Court received, approved and or-
dered filed as submitted the following reports;

Brazos County Health Unit for the month of February, 1959.
William T. Sistrunk, County Agricultural Agent for the month of February, 1959.
E. Loyd Joyce, Assistant County Agent, for the month of February, 1959.
Mrs. Fannie J. Taylor, Brazos County Negro Home Demonstration Agent, for the month
of February, 1959•
E.O. Pace, Negro County Agricultural Agent, for the month of February, 1959.
B.V. Elkins, County Veterans Service Officer, for the month of February, 1959.
Brazos County Welfare Board, by B.V. Elkins, Chairman, for the month of February,

Raymond B. Buchanan, Tax Assessor-Collector, appeared before the Court and requested
authorization to pay J. Weingarten's Inc. the sum of
50 per license plate for all auto-
mobiles registered in the Weingarten's Store, and on
motion duly made, seconded and
unanimously adopted, the Court voted to pay such amount as requested.

B.V. Elkins, Veterans' Service Officer, appeared before the Court and requested that
he be allowed the sum of $20.00 per month for his expenses in the use of his automobile,
and on motion, duly seconded and unanimously passed,
the Court amended its order of
February 9, 1959, to pay Mr. Elkins the sum of $20.00 per month for the use of hie
automobile rather than just on the business tripe made by him as set forth in the order
of 8ebruary 9, 1959.
Came on to be considered the matter of appointing
election judges for Brazos County
for theyear 1959. Whereupon, after discussion and nomination by various members of the

On motion duly made, seconded and unanimously passed, it was ordered that the
terms of the County Court of Brazos County, Texas, in criminal and civil matters
extend from the first Monday in each month until the Sunday immediately prior to
the first Monday in the following month.
The Court received and considered the annual report of the financial condition
of the County for the calendar year of 1958, consisting of 49 pages and submitted
by County Auditor F.J. Vitopil under date of February 10, 1959.

Gentlemen:
I enclose herewith a bill for $80.00 of Bryan Hospital Ina. for treatment
df H.F. Coker, which I recommend that the County pay one-half of, or the sum
of $40.00. While I think the officers acted in a perfectly justifiable manner
in this case under the circumstances, the incident did necessitate the good
services of Dr. Cox and the hospital. They had no choice but to proceed frith
this matter.
While I do not usually make recommendations for payment of this type of
bill, I believe that it is our moral duty to bear our share of the lose here.
The City Attorney is recommending that the City of Bryan pay the remaining
one-hdlf.
I am increasing the fine in this case since Coker is a repeater, to cover
more than the $40.00 involved here.

After discussion, it was the opinion of the Court that before purchasing any of the,
above typewriters that the persons who are to use the machines try out the
different
models and that the Court withhold the purchase of any typewriters until the regular
meeting in April. Unanimously passed. ,
On motion duly seconded and unanimously adopted, the Court voted to pay all bills
which have been properly filed and approved.
Whereupon, the Court adjourned.
