SPECIAL MEETING - JANUARY 19. 1959
A special meeting of the Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Texas, was held in
the Courthouse at Bryan, Texas, beginning at 9 o'clock A.M. on Monday, January 19, 1959,
with the following present
W.C. Davis, County Judge, Presiding,
Raymond A. Nolan, Commissioner of Precinct No. 1,
George Dunn, Commissioner of Precinct No. 2,
Clyde J. Porterfield, Commissioner of Precinct No. 3, and
W.A. Stasny, Commissioner of Precinct No 4.
The matter of appointing a person to serve as Veterans' Service Officer for Brazos
County was brought before the Court and the applications of the following were read
B.V. Elkins, Loyd D. Smith, Ed Vahrenkamp, William G. Lucy, Guy L. Keefer, Ransom L. An-
drews, Samuel A Restivo, Edwin L. Berta, E R Murray, E.B McLeroy, H.A. Vander Cruyssers
and A W. Sabo. After much discussion, motion was made by C.J Porterfield and seconded
by Raymond Nolan, to delegate the duties of Veterans' Service Officer to B.V. Elkins, to
be in addition to his duties as County Treasurer, and to pay Mr. Elins the sum of 8100.00
per month for the handling of such duties. The motion carried by a majority vote with
Porterfield, Nolan and Davis voting for the motion, and Stasny and Dunn voting against
same.

The Court approved and ratified the action of the County Judge as of January
in swearing in Mike M Perrone, Justice of the Peace of Precinct 8, and Arthur Corge
as Justice of the Peace, Precinct 6, Brazos County, Texas, and approved the official
bonds of such Justices of the Peace, and ordered them recorded as such official bond
.

In connection with the acquisition of right-of-way for Farm to Market Highway
No, 974, a motion was made, duly seconded and unanimously passed to authorize con-
demnation proceedings against Emory Smith and wife, Allie Smith, and Nick Philipello
and wife, Nora Philipello, for the undivided internat in the tracts of land required
by the State Highway Engineers' Survey.
On motion made, seconded and unanimously passed, Commissioner Dunn was
authorized to employ the services of a surveyor to survey a tract of land in his
precinct no longer needed by the County and which is contemplated being sold by the
County.
Preliminary to the selection of an official county depository for the bienniu
1959-1960, and in accordance with the provisions of Article 2544, of the Revised

County Judge to advertise for bids from interested banks by publication the follow-
ing notice in the Bryan Daily Eagle once each week for three weeks prior to the re-
gular February meeting of the Court
"NOTICE TO BIDDERS FOR COUNTY DEPOSITORY
Notice is hereby given that Brazos County will receive bids up to ten
o'clock a.m., on Monday, February 9, 1959, for a despoitory for the
biennium of 1959-60, for official county funds, including those of
•
the common school districts
All funds must be protected by bonds and pledges of cash or securities,
as well as by provisions of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.
All bids must be accompanied by certified check payable to the Commission-
ers' Court of Brazos County, Texas, for not less than one-half of one per
cent of the county revenue for the year of 1958, which shall be forfeited
if the successful bidder doesrut enter into the necessary bonds and pled-
ges of cash or securities.
Bide will be publicly opened-and considered at the time specified and
Brazos County reserves the right to reject any or all bids.
