On the recommendation of the Sheriff and finding the foregoing to be the lowest
and beet proposition to the Court and on motion duly seconded and unanimously adopted, the
Court voted to purchase from the General Electric Company of 1204 Prudential Bldg., Houston
25, Teams, the one Model MT-16W 60 Watt mobile combination two-way radio complete and installed
for $543.60•
On motion duly seconded and unanimously adopted, the Court voted to authorise
Sheriff J. W. Hamilton to sell for the highest price obtainable the old used siren heretofore
removed from official automobile.
Mr. D. B. Cofer appeared before the Court and presented a request for the use of the
District Courtroom for a meeting sponsored by the American Bar Association and the State and
local organisations for 7:30 o'clock p. m-, on Thursday, May 1, 1958, for obeervanos of Law
Day U. S. A. On motion duly seconded and unanimously adopted, this request was granted.
Mr. Cofer further presented a request from the Brazos County Bar Association for
the use of the County Courtroom in the Courthouse for a legal institute to be hold during the
day of Thursday, April 24, 1958, and on motion duly seconded and unanimmualy adopted, this
request was granted. I

It was noted that the Brazos County Tax Office had been closed all dry of
datsw-*W, April 12, and a notice to that effect published in the Bryan Daily Eagle. In
~ view of the fact that this action has been taken without approval of the Commieedoners
Court and without any member having been consulted and because of the importance of
uniform office hours for all County offices, on motion duly seconded and unanimously
adopted, it was voted to ask the County Attorney for an official ruling as to whether
or not the Commissioners Court could prescribe uniform working hours for County offices,
and whether or not it has legal authority to do so.
The Court Judge laid before the Court the following petition form containing
a total of 827 signatures and which had been handed to him by Mesdames W. F. Hughes and
N. L. McCullough, after the Court had adjourned on March 10, 1958:

qualifications as outlined by the Youth Development Committee and

After discussion and upon motion duly seconded and unanimously adopted, the
petitions were taken under advisement during the time the Court is considering the
a110leyaant of a Brazos County Probation Officer for the Juvenile Court.
On motion duly seconded and unanimously adopted, the County Judge was requested
to contact the Chairman of the Brazos County Youth Development Ccmdttes and advise his
that the Court was ready and willing to interview any applicants which that group might
psresant for possible employment by the County.
Then cane an the matter of receiving and canvassing the returns from elections
held throughout Brazos County an Saturday, April 5, 1958, for the selection of local
trustees for the caanon school districts and for two members of the County Board of
Education, being sae member from County Cormiesionerle Precinct No. 1 and one member
from County Cammissioner's Precinct No. 3.
From the returns received and officially canvassed, the Court found and declared
the results and the election of local trustees and members of the County Board of Education,
according to the following tabulations

Whereupon, based upon the foregoing tabulation of the returns received, the Court
found and declared that Messrs. H. L. Cargill, Joe Nwasad and Loon Stevener bad been elected
as the three local trustees for Eurtan Consolidated Common School District No. 10; that Olivw
Lightsey and Francis Bond had been elected as the two local trustees foe Smetana Common School
District No. 27; that B. E. Leighton had been elected as a member of the County Board of

Education from Commissioner's irecinct No. 1; and that Don Aagonia had been elected as a camber
of the County Board of Education from Commissioner's Precinct No. 3; and it was so ordered.

On motion duly seconded and unanimously adopted, the Court voted to pay all bi]L
which have been properly filed and approved.
