Special Meeting. - October 4. 1957.
A special meeting of the Commissioners Court of Brazos County, Texas, was held in
the Commissioners Courtroom in the courthouse, at Bryan, beginning at 1Os00 o'clock a.m., ca
Friday, October 4, 1957, with the following presents
A. S Ware, County Judge, presiding,
Raymond A. Nolan, Commissioner of Precinct Number 1,
George Dunn, Commissioner of Precinct Number 2,
Newton Burlin, Commissioner of Precinct Number 4; and
A. B. Syptak, County Cleric.
With reference to the petition filed with the Court on September 9, 1957, wherein
certain land owners in the scutherm part of Brazos County requested the formation of a water
control and improvement district, the following proceedings were bads
"TO THE COUNTY C012-SISSI0NERS' COURT OF
BRAZOS COUNTY, TEXAS. k
And now come the undersigned and present this petition, in
duplicate, for the organization of a Water Control and Improvement
District in Brazos County, Texas. These petitioners show to the
Court that they constitute a majority in number of the holders of title
to the land to be embraced in said District and that they are also the
owners of a majority in value of the lands in said District as shown by
the county tax roll.
The name of the proposed District shall be "BRAZOS COUNTY WATER
CONTROL AND DTROVM/MT DISTRICT, NO. 1, BIG CREEK", the area to be
embraced in said District is approximately 26,000 acres and these is
attached hereto, designated "Exhibit "A" and made a part of this
petition the same as if hilly written herein, a full description by
metes and bounds of the proposed District showing the area and
boundaries thereof
Said District is to be organized under Section 59 of Article
16 of the Constitution of the State of Texas and the purposes of such
organization shall be the control, storage, preservation and distri-
bution of storm and flood waters for irrigation, flood prevention and
other useful purposes The general nature of the work to be done by
said District is to construct all dame, reservoirs, improvements,
plants and works necessary to the purpose for which it is formed; such
work is feasible, practicable and is needed by the land owners of the
land in said District. There is a public need for such District and
its creation will further the public welfare and will benefit the land
included therein and the residents thereof. The estimated cost of the
project as now estimated by the undersigned petitioners from the
information that they have at this time is the sum of 85000000.00•

"Notice is hereby given that a petition for the formation of a Water
Control and Improvement District was on September 9, 19579 filed in
duplicate in my office, said District to be named "BRAZOS COUNTY
WATER CONTROL AND IHPROVEYMIT DISTRICT, No. 1, BIG CREEK", and to
comprise approximately 26,000 acres of land near Allen Pam in Brazos
County, Texas.
The nature and purpose of the District is the control, storage,
preservation and distribution of storm and flood waters for irrigation,
flood prevention and other useful purposes
A hearing of said etition by the Commissioners' Court of Brazos County,
Texas, has been by the County Judge set for October 4, 1957, at 10
o'clock, A. H., in the Commissioners' Court Room in the Court House at }
Bryan, Texas.

■ORDER GRANTING PETITION FOR THE ORGANIZATION OF BRAZOS
COUNTY WATER CONTROL AND IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT, NO. 1,
BIG CREEK.
WHEREAS, on the 9th day of September, 1957, a petition for the
organization of a water control and improvement district in Brazos
County, Texas, to be known as BR MS COUNTY WATER CONTROL AND
IMPROVE MT DISTRICT, NO. 1, BIG CREEK, was filed in the office of
the County Clerk of Brazos County, Torras, in which county the district
is situated, and
WHEREAS, said district will embrace an area of approximately
26,000 acres of land, which land is fully described in said petition;
and
WHEREAS, the County Judge of Brazos County, Texas, did on September
9, 1957, make an order setting the date of hearing of said petition by the
County Commissioners' Court, endorsing same on said petition, the date of
such hearing being set as October 4, 1957, and
WH.%MS, on September 9, 1957, the County Clerk of said county did
issue a notice of such hearing with one original and three copies of said
notice, one copy being retained by said Clerk and the original and two
copies being delivered to the Sheriff of Brazos County, Texas;
And the Sheriff having posted one copy of said notice at the
Court House door more than 15 days prior to October 4, 19570 and having
published one copy of such notice in the Bryan Daily Eagle, a newspaper
of general circulation in Brazos County, Texas, once a week for two
consecutive weeks, the first publication thereof having been wade at
least 20 days prior to the date of hearing, all as shown by the return
of service of such notice with copy and affidavit of publication attached
on the original arior to this date.
The Court now here finds that all notices of this hearing have been
issued, executed and returned in the manner and for the lenEth of time
prescribed by law.
And the Court having heard and considered the petition and the
evidence in support of granting said petition now here finds that the
organization of a district as prayed for in said petition is feasible
and practicable, that the lands to be included and the residents thereof
will be benefited thereby, th.t there is a public necessity and need
therefor, that the creation of such district would further the public
welfare, that all of the lands soubht to be included in the proposed
district will be benefited by inclusion in such district and that said
petition has been signed by a majority in number of the holders of title
to the lands to be er-braced in said district and also by the owners of
a majority in value of the lands therein as shown by the county tax rolls.
IT IS, VMiEFORE, ORDERED, ADJUDGED AND DECREU by the Court that

Agent, E-11y Ritter, has been selected to receive the
Distinguished Service Award of the National Home Dem-
onstration Agents Association. I know that you are as
proud as we are of this because it is as much an honor - - " ^J
to the County as to Yise Ritter, and I am sure that
you would like to sea Miss Ritter make the trip to
Minneapolis, Urnesota,to receive this award. $250.00
is a very conservative estimate of her expenses to
make the trip to lAnneapolie
The Home Demonstration Club woman of the County
would like to pay her expenses, but feel that it would `
be impossible to raise that much money in so short a
time, so we must again impose on your generosity by
asking you to contribute $150.00 toward these exnenses.
We will endeavor to raise the balance.

It having been made knosn to the Court that Mine Ritter is one of the four County

Home Demonstration Agents selected out of the nearly 200 such agents in the State, and that

because of such selection she will be given the coveted distinguished service award during a
formal meeting to be held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on October 22-25, 1957. The members of
the Court were highly pleased to know of this honor being bestowed upon the Brazos County Home
Demonstration Agent, and in recognition of her meritorious and outstanding service, an motion
duly seconded and unanimously adopted, the Court voted to allow her leave with pay for the
time necessary to make the trip to 111suseapolis, and further ordered payment to her of $150.00
from the General Fund as part of her expenses on the occasion.
