From State Highway No. 21 west of Bryan at the Missouri Pacific underpass southeastward to an intersection with Farm-to-Market Highway 60, a distance of approximately 6-1/2 miles. The County Judge laid before the Court itemnized bills from Conlon Brothers, of Bryan, for the moving of various County offices from temporary quarters into the new • permanent courthouse and courthouse plant, amounting to $563.67. On motion duly seconded and unanimously adopted, this account was approved and ordered paid from the Permanent Improvement Fund. Sheriff J. W. Hamilton appeared before the Court and made a bid of $60.00 cash for the old used refrigerator owned by the County and left in the old fail and which is no longer needed by the County. On motion duly seconded and unanimously adopted, this bLd was accepted and the item sold for the $60.00. Brazos A. Varisco, of Bryan, appeared before the Cant and requested delivery of deed to the old jail property, which he had contracted to purchase. Whereupon, general warranty dead to this property was properly executed by the County Judge and delivered to Mr. Varisco, who thereupon gave his check for $19,110.00, which is the balance of the $24,110.00 purchase price. After discussion of the budget and the members of the Court desiring further time for its consideration, it was unanimously voted to recess until 10:00 o'clock a. M., on Friday, September 7, 1956, when final action will be taken far the adoption of the budget for 1957. Whereupon the Court recessed until 1Os00 o'clock a. m., on Friday, September 7, 1956. Special Meeting - September 7. 1956. A recessed meeting of the Commissioners Cost of Brazos County, Texas, wan held in the Comnissioners Courtroom in the courthouse, at Bryan, beginning at 10:00 o'clock a. m., on Friday, September 7, 1956, with the following present. A. S. Ware, County Judge, presiding, Raymond A. Nolan, Commissioner of Precinct Number 1, George Dunn, Commissioner of Precinct Number 2, Clyde J. Porterfield, Commissioner of Precinct Number 3; and Newton Burlin, Commissioner of Precinct Number 4. The special purpose of this recessed meeting was to further consider and act finally upon the 1957 budget for the County, which has been under consideration during the special meetings held on August 30, and September 4, 1956, and recessed to this date. f Came an to be considered the matter of adequate salaries and compensation for countywide elected odficers and county commissioners. On motion duly seconded and unanimously adopted, the Court voted to fix and levy occupation taxes for Brazos County at one-half (1/2) of the rates levied by the State of Texas, and to fix and levy the county poll tax at twenty-five (25#) cents per eligible person for the tax year beginning October 1, 1956, and the Court voted further to request the Tax Assessor- Collector and the Sheriff of Brazos County to strictly enforce the collection of occupation taxes levied by the County. ,.,~,T LY r, r . a 1 11, 7 ' e I.
