The Comissioners Court of Brazos Countys Texas, met in recessed session in the
Commi sioners Courtroom in the courthouse, in Bryan , beginning at 9sOO o'clock a. me, an Tuesday.
September 4, 1956, with the following present:

Raymond A. Nolan, Commissioner of Precinct Number 1,
George Dunn, Commissioner of Precinct Number 2;
Cl)de J. Porterfield, Commissioner of Precinct Number 3; 1- IL
Newton Burlin, Commissioner of Precinct Number 4, and
A. Be Syptak, County Clerk.
The County Judge laid before the Court the following comunication from John Z; BlAir,
District Highway Engineer, District 17, of Bryaw

Dear Judge Ware
We have been asked to form a program for the construction of Farm-to-Market
Roads in your county from funds secured from the Federal Legislation recent-
ly passed by the National Congress.
We are attaching a map of your county and for record purposes we are request-
ing that you indicate on this map in various colors your first, second and
third choice of roads to be considered for construction under the 1957-1958
Federal Aid Secondary Road Program.
Representatives of this office will be glad to discuss jour proposed program
with you if you think it is necessarly. Regular Court meetings are usually
held an the second Monday in each month and it wLl1 be impossible, of course,
for a representative to meet with each of the counties on that date In Sep-
tember. If you desire a discussion with representatives of this office, we
would appreciate your arranging a time during which we will be free to meet
with you.
In order that we may have time to prepare an estivate of the cost of your
various suggested roads, we would appreciate your returning the map to We
office by September 15, 1956. One copy of a resolution passed and signed by
your Court should accompany your map. This resolution should request consid-
eration of the various projects you have chosen in the order in which they are
outlined an the map.

In accordance with the foregoing request and on motion duly ascended and unanimously
adopted, the Court approved and recommended the following projects for the F&1a_to4(ar4mt Hi&hway
Program far cl~nstruction under the 1957-58 Federal Aid Secondary Road program, and other available
programs:
1. From Edge, Texas, to intersect Farm-to-+,arkat I Highway
No. 2038, near Tabor, approximately 4 miles;
2. Prom old San Antonio Road along the Sandy Point County
Road to intersect with Farm-to-Karket Highway No. 50;
approximately 4 miles,

3. From Millican, Texas, along Old Highway 6 to intersection
with new State Highway No. 6, near Navasota River,
approximately 6-1/2 miles,
4. From new State Highway No. 6 at or near th a common corner of
the J. li Scott, Crawford Burnett, Morgan Rector and Richard
Carter Surveys, thence eastward along league line to inter-
section with Farm-to-Market highway 158 near Harvey, approximately
9-1/2 miles,
5. From State Highway No. 21 west of Bryan at the Missouri Pacific
underpass southeastward to an intersection with Farm-to-Market
Highway 60, a distance of approximately 6-1/2 miles.
The County Judge laid before the Court itemnized bills from Conlee Brothers,
of Bryan, for the moving of various County offices from temporary quarters into the new
peruanemt courthouse and courthouse plant, amounting to $563.67. On motion duly seconded
and unanimously adopted, this account was approved and ordered paid from the Permanent
Improvement Fund.
Sheriff J. W. Hamilton appeared before the Court and made a bid of $60.00 cash
for the old used refrigerator owned by the County and left in the old fail and which is no
longer needed by the County. On motion duly seconded and unanimously adopted, this bid
was accepted and the item sold for the $60.00.
Brazos A. Varisco, of Bryan, appeared before the Court and requested delivery of
deed to the old fail property, which he had contracted to purchase. %hereupon, general
warranty deed to this property was properly executed by the County Judge and delivered to
Mr. Varisco, who thereupon gave his check for $19,110.00, which is the balance of the
$24,110.00 purchase price.
After discussion of the budget and the members of the Court desiring further
time for its consideration, it was unanimously voted to recess until 10:00 o'clock a. M.,
on Friday, September 7, 1956, when final action will be taken for the adoption of the budget
for 1957.

S22cial Meeting - September 7. 1956.
A recessed meeting of the Commissioners Court of Brazos County, Texas, was
held in the Commissioners Courtroom in the courthouse, at Bryan, beginning at 10:00 o'clock
a. m., on Friday, September 7, 1956, with the following present:
A. S. Ware, County Judge, presiding,
Raymond A. Nolan, Commissioner of Precinct Number 1,
George Dunn, Commissioner of Precinct Number 2,
Clyde J. Porterfield, Commissioner of Precinct Number 31 and
Newton Burlin, Commissioner of Precinct Number 4
The special purpose of this recessed meeting was to further consider and act
finally upon the 1957 budget for the County, which has been under consideration during the
special meetings held on August 30, and September 4, 1956, and recessed to this date.
Came on to be considered the matter of adequate salaries and compensation for
county-wide elected oifdcers and county commissioners. After discussion and consideration
of this matter over a period of some time and on motion duly seconded and unanimously adopted,
the Court voted to increase county-wide elected officers' salaries by 28.2 plus per cent
and the county commissioners' salaries by 28 per cent, so as to increase the $4,680.00
salaries to $6,000.00, and those now set at $3,750.00 to $4,800.00, effective from and
after January 1, 1957.
