We Reed appeared before the Court and requested the County Commissioners to help out on the gradin of runw s a d lk d g ay n wa s aroun + the Bryan Municip4 Airport, known as Coulter Field. They were especially concerned in helping the r'3 City authorities get the Field ready for a state-wide meeting of fliers to be in Bryan, an June 17, • 1956. The County Commissioners gave assurance of cooperation with the City authorities and reported r' • ; that they were already actually working an the Field with motargradere and dirt-moving equipment. IA Mr. William Me Pena appeared before the Coat end presented formal contract between the n: County and the Kraft Furniture Company of B ryas, Teacae, for the supplying of furniture and furnishings, ' +•:~r In accordance with specifications and awards heretofore made by the Court. The said contract was duly ~ } -executed by the members of the Court and attested by the County Clark, as shown by attached copy: ;r j After discussion and upon motion duly seconded and unanimously adopted, the Court voted to .~r4± waive its right to require the Kraft Furniture Company of Bryan, Texas, to furnish 'a performance bond or guaranty of fulfillment of contract for furniture and furnishings for the new courthouse ~j jr plant. ,f •r. Mr. Robert We Caldwell, of the firm of Caldwell and Caldwell, landscape architects, of C M1'f 406 Day Street, of Bryan, Texas, appeared before the Court and discussed the matter of landscaping for the new courthouse grounds. After discussion and conferring with Mr. William N. Pena, of the t architectural and engineering firm of Caudill, Rowlett, Scott and Associates, it was agreed that r e^i~ Mr. Caldwell's firm be given the contract for landscaping of the grounds surrounding the new courthouse- r • fail plant,. Whereupon, on motion duly seconded and unanimously adopted, the Court voted to employ . t` the firm of Caldwell and Caldwell for this purpose and authorised Mr. Robert We Caldwell to prepare t, sketches and prints of the proposed work and to draft a"contract to be completed in 12 month e, for .-submission back to the Court after approval by the archltectural'and engineering firm of Caudill , Rowlett, Scott and Associates. McLaughlin for construction of a concrete girder bridge over Burton Creek at 29th Street extension. The bridge is completed except for some clean-up work whlbh the Contractor will do next week. Also enclosed Is a statement to Brazos County for'two thousand ($2000.00) dollars, which is the amount pledged by the County to be applied to the cost of the bridge. Your cooperation in assisting the City with this project is appreciated. Sheriff J. W. Hamilton appeared before the Court in accordance with authority heretofore granted and recommended the employment of Mr. Fred C. Seale as Maintenance Engineer for the new courthouse-jail plant, at a salary of $375.00 per month. 04 motion duly seconded and unanimously adopted , the Court voted to accept this recommendation and to appoint Mr. Seale as Maintenance Engineer for the courthouse-jail plant, and fixed his compensation at the rate of $375.00 per month. On recommendation of the County Judge and by motion duly seconded and unantmouely.adopted , the Court voted to assign Room No. 307, being the most westerly room an the third floor of the Judicial Unit of the new courthouse-jail, to Brazos County Civil Defense for use as the nerve center or headquarters for civil defense and disaster relief in Brazos County. Commissioner Dunn requested authority to purchase from the Mustang Tractor k Equipment Company, of Houston, Texas, One (1) used 0. M. C. 270 Truck with Tulsa Winch, Rolling Tailboard and Two Straddle Tanke, covered by Texas Certificate of Title No. 15579157, Motor Number A270779419, for $1,100.00. On motion dully seconded and unanimously adopted, Commissioner Dunn was authorised to make the purchase as requested, and to pay for the item from funds available to Precinct No. 2, to which the said vehicle was allocated. .'A *1 - M •1956. The Court ratified and approved the employment of Mrs. Irene 0. Matuooi as Secretary to the County Judge and the Commissioners Court and County Court Reporter, effective from April 4s 1956, at $8.00 per diem for the balance of April and at the rate of $200.00 per month from and after May 1, 1956.
