Special Meeting - Monday, May 7, 19561
A special meeting of the Commissioners' Court of Brasoe County, Texas, was hold in the office
of the County Judge in the Courthouse at Bryan, beginning at 9+00 a. a., an Monday, May 7, 1956, with
the following presents
A. S. Mare, County Judge, presiding;
Raymond A. Nolan, Commissioner of Precinct No. 1;
George Dunn, Commissioner of Precinct No. 2;
Clyde J. Porterfield, Commissioner of Precinct No. 3;

Newton Burlin, Commissioner of Precinct No. 4; and
A. B. Syptak, County Clerk.

The purpose of this meeting was to further consider the bids and proposals for the furniture

and furnishings for the new courthouse plant as received on May 4, 1956, and which were referred to the
firm of Caudill, Rowlett, Scott, and Associates, architects and engineers, for tabulation, comparison,
`
evaluation, checking, and recommendations to the Court. Accordingly, Mr. William M. Pena, of that
firm, appeared and reported that they had checked the bids against specifications and otherwise had
examined them, and that their rec®endatim was that the low bid of 166,567.66 for Item 1 of A.

Furniture, submitted by Kraft Furniture Company, of Bryan, and being on the Knoll products throughout,

be accepted. After discussion, and upon motion, duly seconded and unanimously adopted, the Court

voted to accept said bid and awarded the contract therefor.
Mr. Allan Kraft, of the Kraft Furniture Company, of Bryan, the successful bidder on the main

lot of furniture, who had been present nines the beginning of the meeting, made a proposal that in

order to have all the supplying and work of installation done by the same people, rather than two or
ti
more contractors, and thus avoid conflicts in deliveries and times of completion, his company would

supply and install all curtains and carpets and rugs for the amounts of the lowest bide respectively
for these items. Mr. Pena stated this would be a great convenience to all parties, but he felt that

the bids should be considered as submitted, although he conceded the Court's right to reject any or

all bids or to accept any bid or bids found to be most advantageous to the County. Strictly on the
s
basis of this being most advantageous to the County in that it would avoid possible conflicts in
deliveries, working, and installation, the Court exercised its option to accept this proposal and

voted to place all of the work in the hands of one contractor.

Whereupon, on motion duly seconded and unanimously adopted, the Court voted to place contract
with Kraft Furniture Company, of Bryan, Texas, for Item 1 of B. Curtains and Drppes, for products of

Knoll Associates, at a price of 14,759.85.

Likewise, upon motion duly seconded and unanimously adopted, the Court voted to place contract

with Kraft Furniture Company of Bryan, Texas, for C. C.rpets and Rugs, at a price of $1,041.36.
It having been developed that all bide on carpets had been made on specifications which

did not include pads or padding under the carpeting
and on a proposal by Mr. Allan Kraft ofthe Kraft

to purchase from that fists the necessary padding or pads of a superior quality or grade, at a cost
of 1180.00. ,
