S. Ware, County Judge, presiding; Raymond A. Nolan, Commissioner of Precinct No. 1; Reuben F. Conrad, Commissioner of Precinct No. 2; Clyde J. Porterfield, Commissioner of Precinct No. 3; Newton Burlin, Commissioner of Precinct No. 4; and A. B. Syptak, County Clerk. ' - Chainaanw Clifton C. Carter of the Brazos County Democratic Executive Committee appeared before JJJ the Court and presented the recommendation of his organization that an'additional voting precinct be established in the northwest portion of the City of Bryan with polling place to be located at the Central Fire Station situated on, North Bryan Avenue and that the polling place for Voting Precinct No. 11 be now designated as T:uvis School building instead of the old Brazos County courthouse, which iJ is now being razed. C. Cole, Trustee, twenty of the old used and unneeded wooden benches heretofore located in the District Court of the old Brazos County, courthouse • r • and which are now feund to•be surplus and no longer needed. Ir In view of the fact that the oouaty did not remove from the old courthouse all of its property and furniture until noon of this date, on motion duly seconded and unanimously adopted it was voted by the Court to allow the Ted Hall Wrecking Company one additional day on its contract to ' rase the old courthouse and clear the site, making the total elapsed time fifteen days from 8:00 a.m., on Monday, August 9, 1954, instead of the fourteen days provided for in the contract of February 8, 1954. On motion duly seconded and unanimously adopted, the Court voted to pay all bills which have been properly filed and approved and for which budgeted funds are available. t Whereupon the Court adjourned. o+sOg4YioiFYA Special Meeting, Wednesday, August 18, 1954. A special meeting of the Brazos County Commissioners' Court was held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 18, 1954, with the following members present: A. S. Ware, County Judge, presiding= to Raymond A. Nolan, Commissioner of Precinct No. 11 Reuben F. Conrad, Commissioner of Precinct No. 21 Clyde J. Porterfield, Commissioner of Precinct No. 31 Newton Burlin, Commsiesioner of Precinct No. 41 and A. B. Syptak, County Clerk. The purpoee of this meeting was to lift the cornerstone from the old courthouse now being razed , and to open the box vulch had been placed under that stone at the time the building was dedicated on ! July 8, 1892. The members of the Court were assisted In this ceremony by Mr. Will S. Gibbs as a rep- resentative of the Bryan Masonic Lodge which had laid the cornerstone. Also assisting were the following named citizens who were present at the time the atone was laid and the original building dedicated: Honorable F. L. Henderson, Honorable J. G. llinkert, W. 11. Sims, E H. Burt and l IIon Stuart. The cornerstone being removed the copper-coated box was exposed and then-opened. It was found that the ravages of time had caused disintegration of the papers and other documents which had been placed in the box and this process seemed to have been aggravated by water, which had passed through the boot. The following items were removed from the box and identified and than replaced in the box for safekeeping: 1. One issue of the Houston Daily Post. July 5, 1892, sold by Nyere and Haswell Agency. 2. Two copies of the weekly Brazos Farme„a, dated March 29, 1892, and July 5, 1892. { ` 3. Key marker - presented by Rev. 411ngo, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Bryan. 4. One copy of the Brazos Pilot. July 8, 1892. i 5. Copy of proceedings of the 17th Convention of the Tense State Grange meeting, at licGragor, Texas, August 11, 12 and 13, 1891. 6. Business cards bearing the names of John M. Caldwell, Bryan, and P. 0. Holt Machinery Company, Lumpkin, Georgia. .i 7. Closed cylinder containing printed volume of the Ordinances and the Charter of the City of Bryan, August 1, 1807, and revised in 1891 by Cox Printing Company, t r` 8. A signature card from John booth and ;d Saunders, July 8, 18920 in remembrance of fi { their names when the stone would be removed. 9. A paper containing all of the names of the municipal officers of the City, of Bryan, certified by A. B, Carr, City Secretary, but the,names of all the parties have been obliterated except that of Mr. Carr.
