A regular meeting of the Commissioners' Court of Brazos County, Tomes was held In the' office
'y of the County Judge beginning at 1000 a.a.$ Monday, April 12, 1954, with the following menbese presents:

Professor A. R. Owene, a teacher in the Add! Consolidated Junior High School. appeased before
"y the Court with approximately eighty members of the seventh grade Civics class of his school and requested •
permission to observe the session of the Court as visitors. This permission was greated and Professor

Owens was thanked for their Interest in the operation of the County Government. It was found, however, • ,
that quarters in the courthouse were inadequate for a meeting with that many visitors. Thereupon the
Court owed on to the north lawn of the courthouse and the session was held there. S
The Court received, approved and ordered paid from the Bight-of-Way Fund account for r
172.42 submitted by the Haveron Plumbing Company of Bryan for laying of water line across the State
PN Highway No. 60 on the approach to the Brazos River bridge now under construction. This water line is
situated on property wined by Joe Varisco and was wrecked by the contractor in excavating for the highway
approach to the now river bridge.
Messrs. George Cargill and W. W. Humphries appeared before the Court and requested the count
to provide a stock water tank on land belonging to Mr. Cargill, which had been out off by the proposed
extension of State Farm-to-Market Highway No. 1174 now under construction and which had destroyed an
existing stock water tank. This matter had been carried over from the last session of the Court and
l: was pending business for this meeting. After discussion and upon another motion adopted without opposi-
tion the Court voted to allow Mr. Cargill 1450.00 for the construction of a new water tank on his property

and ordered this payment to be made from the Right-of-Way Pund. y4

On motion duly eeeamtdsd and unanimously adopted the Court voted to pay Mr. W. R. Lewis of •'V
{ Edge, Texas, 1320.00 from the Right-of-Way Fund, being payment at 1100.00 per acre for 3-2/10 acres of
lend required as right-of-way for Farm•-to-Market Highway No. 2037 which is the proposed improvement of the
Edge Cutoff County Road. '

meeting Thursday, April 8th, "that a letter be delivered to the commissioners court
urging the court to make every effort to meet the requirements of the State Department
in order to be able to accept its offer of a probation officer." This motion was
unanimously passed, and we are conveying to you at this time the action taken, with

NOW, THMEPM, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Bryna-College Station Business'
and Professional Women's Club, at its regular business meeting on the 17th'
day of March, 1954, go on record as endorsing the movement that the Com-
missioners Court of Brazos County, employ a qualified Probation Officer

Bryan held its monthly business meeting April 5, 1954.
In this session, the group voted unanimously to endorse the movement sponsored
by the County Council of Social Agencies to establish a
probation prdepartment obation and to
secure an
adequately trained person to serve in the capacity of probation officer. Due to indreaeed incidents of juvenile crime, it is our belief that prompt

This delegation was advised that with only twenty-eight acres total area In the Brazos County

Federal Social Security Board as, it is administered through the Texas State Department of Public Welfare

in Austin. Accordingly, Mr. James B. Atles, Director of the Social Security Division of the State
Department of Public Welfare of Austin, Texas, appeared and presented details of the program and the

necessary procedure to be followed in the event that the county desired to participate.
After extended and detailed, explanations by Mr. Atlee and after full and complete discussion

by members of the Court, a motion was made; duly seconded and unanimously adopted by which it was

voted to place Brazos County under full and complete coverage of the Old-Age and Survivors Insurance

Program of the Federal Social Security Board, effective tram and after May 1, 1954, and to include
