The Court received a telephonic report from County Judge Lathan Boons, Jr., of Grimes CountyMwho
r,c; stated that big Commissioners' Court then in session had passed a resolution requesting the State Highway

Department to name the bridge over the Brazos River on Highway No. 90 after Senator Neveille Higgs Colson,
so that said bridge would be (mown as the "Colson Bridge". Judge Boons stated that the Grimes County
=~1 Commlolonerel Court was now requesting the Commissioners' Courts of Brazos and Washington Counties to

. interest of better highways. After discussion and upon the enthusiastic approval of the individual members
+;J of the Court, a motion was made, duly seconded and unanimously adopted by which the Brazos County Cam-

should loin in the request to the State Highway Commission that the name of "Colson
Bridge" be applied to the structure to span the Brazos River along the routs of State Highway No. 90.
County Auditor F. J. Vitopil laid before the Court the following bids for electric and manually-

The lowest bid was that submitted by C. M. Wright, Agent,
for the Underwood Corporation, Bryan, Tema. . . . . . . . 440.00.
Tai Assessor-Collector Burkhalter stated is open Court that his Reference from the foregoing
bids as that of the manually-operated typewriter. Whereupon motion was made, duly seconded and uaaaima
adopted by which the Court voted to accept the lowest and beet bid for the manually-operated typewriter
as submitted by Oqy H. Deaton; Typewriter Exchange, at $222.35, and authorised ths.purohase of said itm
at the stated bid price.
Upon request of Mr. Burkhalter and after motion made, duly seconded and unanimously adopted, the
County Auditor as authorised to secure bids for consideration of the Court at its next regular meeting
for supplying the office of the Taz Assessor-Collector a new adding machine in accordance with specifi-
cations and description to be supplied by Mr. Burkhalter.
Commissioner 8urlin esplaiued to the Court that in the area of the W1]liems Subdiviaioa east of
State Highway No. 6 north of Bryan that he seriously needed to improve the drainage along a county road
is the vicinity of the residence of Mrs. Faye Ridlehuber. After hearing his asplanation and upon his
request and on motion duly seconded and unanimously adopted, the Court voted to authorise the county to
purchase from the Ridlehubers an easement 25 feet wide and 300 feet long at a consideration of $125.00
cash to be paid from the Terracing Account of Precinct No. 4.
The Court voted to pay all bills which have been properly filed and approved and for which
budgeted funds are available.
Whereupon the Court adjourned.

A special meeting of the Brasov County Caamissionerst Court was held in the office of the County
Judge in the courthouse beginning at 8:30 a.a., Friday, March 12, 1954, with the folloriag members

The purpose of this special meeting was to receive, consider and pass upon applications for
soil conservation work which had been filed by land owners. Accordingly, on motion duly seconded and
unanimously adopted thi Court approved applications and authorised Commissioner Harlin to perform the
work required by the following applications:

I. J. 0. Cheatham, hereby request you to do the following soil conservation
work for me:
Terracing and grading.
As compensation therefor, I agree to pay to the County in cash the fair and
equitable costs of such work based upoa,a rate of $7.00 per hour. '
The object of this work 1e the adequate terracing or drainage of the land and
for soil conservation purposes.
