Mr. J. E. Newcomb of the Reliance Community appeared before the Court and requested reimburse-
ment to him of the damage sustained on September 3, 1953, by his pickup truck then it slipped off the
bridge over Mathis Branch in Precinct No. 2.
In view of the generally accepted doctrine of no tort liability on the part of the county for
the maintenance of roads and bridges, Mr.-Newcomb was informed that the Court could not accept liabil -
1ty without a legal opinion to that effect from the County Attorney. The matter was therefore official],
referred to County Attorney Davis Grant for a legal opinion at his earliest convenience.
By unanimous agreement, the Court not Tuesday, September 22, 1953,-at 7:30 p.m., in the office
of the County Judge, as the date and place for a conference with the members of the Citizens$ Advisory
Committee on a proposed Brazos County Courthouse-.Tail.
Upon motion duly seconded and unanimously adopted the Court poted to pay all bills which have .
been properly filed and approved and for which budgeted funds are available.
The Court received and noted the following communication from F. J. Vitopil, County Auditor,
by which he had on September 10, 1953, appointed Mrs. Martha Freeman as Assistant County Auditor of
Brazos County, Texas, without compensation:

until further notice, without compensation.
