D. 1949, there was presented to me a petition for an election in Brazos County A-M-T Common School District No. 3, of Brazos County, Texas, to determine whether or not a majority of the resident property taxpaying citizens who are qualified voters in said district, are in favor of increasing the local school main- tenanoe tax from fifty cents (500) to One and No/100 ($1.00) Dollar on the $100.00 valuation of taxable.property situated within said diatrict;'end WHEREAS, said petition bears the signatures of H. H. Moore and 22 other persons, reps resenting themselves as being qualified voters who are resident property taxpaying citizens within said district, and said petition is otherwise in conformity withthe law; and WHEREAS, it appears that Brazos County contains a population of 26,977, according to the'1940 United States census, and furthermore that said Brazos County A-M-T Common School District No. 3, has herstoldre been properly and legally established; and I WHEREAS, it appears that said Brazos County A-M-T Common School District No. 3 is now collecting and using a local maintenance tax of 50c per $100.00 valuation of taxable property within said district. NOW, THEREFORE. I, A. S. Ware, in my official capacity as County Judge of Brazos County, Texas, in response to said petition, do hereby order that an election be held on Saturday, July 16, 1949, at the Millican School House, in said Brazos County A-M-T Common School District No. 3, to determine whether or not a majority of the resident property tax- paying citizens who are legally qualified voters in such district desire to levy an addit- ional local school maintenance tax or increase the existing local school maintenance tax from fifty cents (50o) to $1.00 on the $100.00 valuation of taxable property within said district, and to determine whether or not the Commissioners Court of said County shall be authorized to levy, assess, and oollect such increased local sohcol maintenance tax; and Mrs. B. Vance is hereby appointed presiding officer of said election, and she shall select two clerks to assist her in holding said election, and she shall within five days after said election has been held males due return thereof to the Commissioners Court of this County, as is required by lm for holding general elections. All persons who are legally qualified voters of this State and of this County and who are resident property taxpayers in said District shall be entitled to vote at said "election,' and all voters who favor the proposition herein shall have written or printed on 'their balloto the following: "FOR increasing the levy of local school maintenance tax from fifty cents (50a) to One and No/100 ($1.00) Dollar on the $100.00 valuation of taxable property within Brazos County A-M-T Common School District No. 3;" and those opposed to such taxation'shall have written or printed on their ballots the words: "AGAINST increasing the levy of local adfool maintenance tax from fifty cents (500) to One and No/100 ($1.00) Dollar on the $100.00 valuation of taxable property within Brazos County A-M-T Common School District No. 3." , The Sheriff of this County shall give notice of said election by posting a copy of . this order in each of three public places within the boundaries of said District for at least ten (10) days before the date fixed for said -election. Ware, in my official capacity as County Judge of Brazos County, Texas, in response to said petition, do hereby order 'that an election be held on Saturday, July 16, 1949, at the Kurten School House in said Brazos County Kurten Co.-,=on School District No. 10, to determine whether or not a majority of the resident property tax, paying citizens who are legally qualified voters in such district desire to levy an addit- ional local school maintenance tax or increase the existing local school maintenance tax from present rates to One and No/100 ($1.00) Dollar on the $100.00 valuation of taxable property within said district, and to determine whether or not the Commissioners Court of said County shall be authorized to levy, assess, and collect such increased local school maintenance tax; and E.
